Evron Base has a peculiar history. It was built in Mayenne Asteroid Field in 442 AGS by a pirate faction named the French Connection. The group was mostly involved in dealing drugs and trading weapons and explosives around Gallia. Normandy was one of the primary sources of the goods that the Connection traded, and maintaining an outpost near the jump hole was crucial for the group's business. The field itself had no economic significance and no mining companies interfered with the Connection's operations. Police patrols were scarce at the time, and law enforcement was usually reluctant to enter a field that already had a notorious reputation for having a criminal presence.

The First Gallic War ended the Connection's business. Part of the group joined the Normandy-side pirate groups, part joined the Brigands, Unione Corse, and other groups on the Core side. The Mayenne field became a contested area during the First Gallic War where many battles took place. Evron was damaged by a torpedo in one of the battles and the remaining Connection personnel abandoned it. Circa 515 AGS, a group named Nation Libre, a loose union of vagabonds and freelancers of various sorts, re-pressurized the station and converted it into their home base. The group kept quiet during the war and tried not to attract the attention of any parties during the war. The peace agreement with Normandy declared the field and the corresponding area from the Normandy side completely demilitarized, with no persistent installations allowed to be built there. The status of Evron was not determined, and Nation Libre still occupied it. They gradually got involved in the smuggling and information exchange between Maine and Normandy. Mercenaries, freelancers, and pirates used the station as a safe haven to re-supply and meet in neutral territory.

Normandy violated the agreement circa 600 AGS by placing a decommissioned stationary battleship on the other side of the jump hole. The Royal Navy was not overly concerned by this development, since a battleship would not be able to pass through the asteroid field anyway. However, the Navy started to patrol the field intensely to prevent any future incidents. Ships of criminal parties started to avoid Evron, since the center of the field was heavily patrolled by Navy ships. Evron's profits steeply declined, and its population dropped from over 1,000 to no more than 150 by 630 AGS. Later, since no hostile activity on the Normandy side was detected, the patrols were reduced. The Nation Libre was not able to overcome its losses, and the station was in a very poor state and needed emergency repairs.

In 641 AGS, the Council approached Nation Libre and offered them a significant sum of credits to purchase Evron from them. After a brief negotiation, an agreement was reached and later that same year the Council invested in repairing the base and upgrading its defenses. Since then, a small detachment of Council fighters has been stationed onboard. Evron played an important role in the negotiations held between the Council and the separatists, with some of the meeting taking place onboard and others arranged via the station's comm arrays. The exact nature of the negotiations remains unknown and it was rumored that the Council asked Normandy to join their cause. While the separatists did not agree to go to war against the Crown, they offered sizeable help with financing, ships, and manpower. Evron has served as an outpost for trade and communication between Normandy and the Council. The Navy has been long aware that the station is now in the hands of the Council, but there is not much that can be done against the aged yet heavily armored installation within its dense asteroid field.
