Also, what then? We would be playing .85 forever? That would hardly be interesting in long-term. Especially when one of the most loud complaints people had back in .85 times was that mod is stagnating (because waiting for .86 was really long) and no longer interesting due to no development so players were leaving "because there is nothing new to do".
But what if that was really better, not just "cus the grass was greener and vodka tastier"?
The more times passes by, the more people lean towards classics, because it provided more action and satisfaction in some numerous ways, as we can judge from today's perspective.
Well, RP is endless, so yeah, why not, even without tamagochi PoBs there's lots of things to do, everything's limited by your imagination.
Even with people complaining, it was 255/255 almost every evening.

Who cares for such efforts if they drive the game into oblivion.

Yeah, "you don't respect our efforts" is a common reply here.

What people who say that don't understand is that pointing at a problem to help solve it isn't the same as not respecting someone's effort. It's respecting them enough to not treat them like a 5 year old who drew a picture, but like someone who has the capacity to take and understand criticism.

The funny part is that many people who say "you don't respect other people's efforts" are only talking about their own effort and don't respect other peoples efforts by blocking their criticism/contribution (effort which also takes effort) even when they know perfectly well that it would lead to improvement.

That's all an everlasting topic, of course. Never gets old. Would be nice to hear Admins' overall opinion on this. Things have to be made.

From what I could gather (from other people because admins don't talk to me about it), their opinion is this:

Roguelikes play almost directly with your imagination. And DF is just an endless source of lolwut occasions being thrown at the player, thus leading to those cool stories you see across the internets.
FL, however, may seem as "just an old game" to youths, even regarding all the RP environment.
I should make some ads on local biggest imageboard, though. Still a way to attract some new players. Language barriers are also a problem, some peeps are being scared by an English-only RP server, they think it's too much for them.

Those were good times, but will not return. Never ever and it´s very naive to think otherwise (after all, how many similarly old games you know whose playerbase is steady for years or even growing in numbers)? Maybe some people would return, but at the same time some others would leave because they are attracted mostly by new era stuff like POBs/cloaks/jump drives and such, or because they would be too dissapointed by their RP effort being thrown out of the window (because in roleplay you could hardly justify how it happened that whole universe returned in time, wars which ended years ago are suddenly raging again while those which were raging do not exist, some places and even whole house do not exist and so on). Basically all what players created in last several years would become worthless and that´s unacceptable price on the RP server, because it would be really demotivating for players, especially those who build their characters´ story for long time.

So in my opinion this would not improve the player count much, if even in any way, actually I would be afraid that in the end it would make things even worse. Especially if the "plan" would be to keep same version of the mod forever. I really do not think this is the way how to help it to survive or attract new players.

How to force them to act then?
I know that they're not paid anyhow for their work, and forcing them to implement something would cost their spare time, but wouldn't it be better for the community and their own satisfaction after all?

I've already mentioned WoW vanilla which is 2003 as well and being played heavily as of today on private servers and will be so on the official legacy, EVE is still living (there was no changes to the core gameplay since the launch of the game, just slight improvements over functionality and ship additions in general), various mentioned Quakes. You can also add SWG, SW:JA + mods, older Dooms with mods, you name it.
Hi. Developer here.

I don't think POBs should be constructed within 15k of jump holes/gates or 30k of mining fields regardless of their core level. I know that's only one of your complaints, but it's actually an admin level issue. The majority of the development team to my knowledge does not believe the current meta regarding them is enjoyable nor sustainable.

If you're interested in discussing things more extensively, I'm happy to talk on Discord.

Pretty sure every ambitious person of the staff would be more inclined to work on improvements if they had more time. Less reports and symptoms for such, in general, would save a lot of time. Meaning people who complain should spend their energy less on complaining but on helping newcomers on not violating rules and not being a dick in discussions to derail them.

That being said, the people who wear pink shades on .85 times often forget that a step back to .85 would only be cool for people who enjoyed those times so much that they would give up everything they accomplished post-.85. You won't get more people based on crass changes that aren't only positive. Especially when they aren't more than subjectively positive.

Such PoBs are no more existant (I suppose?), but the damage has been done already.
Discord is one thing, however, such topics should be discussed publicly.

cabane was perfectly well placed with correct distance, a base built in dublin same thing (accused to be in field) but no if i remember it was at 25 km) np for this baf has decided to destroy a thing specialised to help every miners in dublin aftre the destruction by the gauls of the bmm base!
