The Shrine of Inari is a heavily armed mobile Shinto Shrine based on a common Geisha Liner. It is a traditional Shinto Shrine dedicated to the Goddess Inari, the Ancient Japanese and now Kusarian Goddess of Agriculture, Industry, Rice, Fertility, and Foxes.
It's head Shrinemaiden, or Miko is Satomi-no-Kitsune, but the Shrine houses a number of other employees and passengers during daily operations. It can usually be found loitering near New Tokyo, but rarely ventures out into Sirius on Donation or "Charity" missions.
Design
The Inari Shrine is a standard Geisha type Kusari Liner, funded entirely through donations during Satomi's solo days. The most obvious difference between it and other ships of the type is a large Torii, or shrine-gate replacing the Dragon Statuette, and additional armor and reinforcement. As well as access ports for donations.
The Interior of the Shrine has a traditional Japanese/Kusarian look. With wood and paper adornments and floors made of Tatami, with the exceptions of the (mostly automated) engineering deck. There is a large Xen Garden in the bubble-like geosphere behind the main tower. And the top of the pagoda-deck serves as the Shrine's command center and bridge. On the center-cupola, there is a Dojo for the Shrine Employees, and below that a restaurant and galley, both open to the public. Crew quarters are spartan, as the Shrine mostly stays close to New Tokyo.
A few areas inside are closed off. Those areas that contain the actual entombment of the Kami, and are restricted to Shrine Priestesses alone.
History
The Origional Shrine to Inari Okami was assembled from parts of a grand shrine taken from Old Earth, and built on New Tokyo. It was dedicated to the Eight Million Kami, but to Inari In particular. Inari's Guardians, or Kitsune, legendary fox-spirits who act as her Servants and Messengers, were said to watch over the Shrine from afar. However, as time went on, many Kusarians, even traditionalists, forgot the old ways, of Shinto, Inari, and the Yokai that once plagued them.
It wasn't until 817 that Satomi returned and was tasked with commanding a mobile Shinto shrine dedicated to Inari. Which she funded via Donations harvested throughout Kusari. After a breakthrough deal with the Gas Miners Guild, she purchased what would become the Mobile Shrine of Inari, and immediately modified (I.E. Fortified) the Shrine to her own ends.
Shortly thereafter, the Shrine was put under Scrutiny of the Kusari State Police for rumors of embezzlement and child abduction, but a public relations campaign quickly put pressure on the Kusari Police, forcing them to back down.
Currently, the Shrine mostly stays near Planet New Tokyo and extorts donations from passers by, but occasionally does special events like festivals or tricking people.
Duties
Currently the main goal of the Shrine is to gather donations and faith for Inari's use (weather or not it is being used for other purposes is unknown). The Shrine accepts visitors, and has rarely assisted traders in need. One such event was when a Barge known as "Tubular" required unloading near New Tokyo.
Usually the Shrine avoids combat or any activities which would threaten donation profits, but it has been known to take money from anyone and everyone. Individuals and Groups ranging from Interspace, the Gas Miners Guild, Samura, Kishiro, the Blood Dragons, the LWB, the Temporary Autonomous Zoners, the Kempeitai, Das Wilde, and the Admins have donated at one time or another, plus many more.
Though the Shrine may hire Lawyers or Mercenaries should any threat present itself which cannot be solved by making a victim of one's self publicly.
