Constantia Licht is a 25 year old Rheinland Federal Police officer. Unlike many of her collegues, Constantia is half Bretonian and thus a dual citizen.
Early life
Licht was born on planet Hamburg as the only daughter of a Daumann dock worker and a Republican employee. Because of the complications during her birth, when she needed four shifts of midwives and the head physician until she was in the right position to leave her mother’s body, her father chose a variation of the German name Constanze – “the firm” – for his daughter, while her mother insisted on raising her bilingually. Her parents were full of opposites, anyway: Werner Licht, a rather conservative Rheinlander who never saw much else than Hamburg and Altona at most but still managed to meet the love of his life on this “barren, cold yet lovely piece of rock” – as he called Hamburg. Anna Licht, née Harrison and then Gateway pilot, was on a trade mission and met Constantia’s father in the docks, for whom she was ready to settle down on Hamburg – despite her not being as patriotic and conservative as him after all those years in space, side by side with people from all sorts of different nations. Yet, she integrated herself surprisingly good, regardless of the cultural differences between her new home and her old one, Bretonia. This way Constantia got to know both Rheinland and Bretonian culture and language when growing up. However, since her parents had barely enough money to support the family as a whole and not enough to finance higher education for their daughter, Constantia’s bicultural parental home was nothing more than of mere practical use for her. Especially in her teenage years when she would steep into the colourful and diverse bar districts of Hafen City, where she met all sorts of people from all around Sirius.
Despite her long, wild and alcohol soaked adventures in Hamburg’s nightlife, Constantia managed to graduate from High School with an average degree – unlike many of her friends, who came from worker’s homes, too, and slipped away into the dark and dangerous world of Hamburg’s drug dealers, prostitutes and small time criminals. Having seen so many of her friends ending up there or at the docks, where they merely earned enough money to survive but not live, Constantia sought to make a difference in her life – as well as in other’s. She joined the Rheinland Federal Police to serve and protect; not only the big ships of Daumann, Kruger and all the rest of them but also those, who felt forgotten by the government: the workers, the poor, the desperate – in short, her friends and family.
Service in the Rheinland Federal Police
Constantia is still a young and inexperienced police officer who is mostly assigned to patrols and border protection. Except for random encounters with pirates near trade lanes and a few battles in Dresden against members of the Red Hessians, she barely distinguished herself in combat and has yet to prove herself to her more experienced colleagues and veteran superiors. However, Constantia manages to get along with most of her fellow officers and unlike many other new cadets, her rookie status isn’t really bothering her.
Personality
As a young cadet, Constantia is very motivated and idealistic. She works very accurate (at least she tries to do so…) and treats superiors with high respect. Though, she can’t stand injustice and often speaks out against it, even in front of said superiors which already led to one or two verbal admonitions. Overall, Constantia is a very laid back and open minded person – some even think, she’s going to far as there are rumors that occasionally you may see her at the bar, downing Jägermeister with random Unioners or Bundschuh activists when off-duty. Even though there have been no incidents of treason or security leaks so far, people – especially colleagues who dislike her – tend to hold that behavior against her. Behavior like this and her occasional clumsiness lead to the fact that Constantia is sneered at by some veterans and senior officers of the force.
Constantia is known for her habbit of greeting bypassing vessels of any type and other acts of courtesy, which are taken for granted by her and summed up in what she calls “lane chivalry.”
