Synopsis
The Gallic National Intelligence, or GNI, is Confederal Gallia's newly formed intelligence department. They operate with a greater degree of autonomy than the Confederal Defense Forces, and are plagued with none of the poor training and outmoded equipment that the Gendarmerie is subject to. Their primary focus is on counter-terrorism operations, usually against the Royal Enclave and the Maquis.
The OCI's upper echelons are largely comprised of former high ranking Council officers, chosen for their loyalty to a unified Gallia. As applicants to the OCI are throughly vetted, those with personal agendas or emotional ties to any one of the Confederacy's states are weeded out, keeping the organization extraordinarily small, even by the standards of an intelligence branch. Lending to their unique modus operandi, the OCI maintains a close relationship with the Crayter Republic, who provided invaluable support to the Council during the Second Gallic War.
History
Royal Time
Gallic National Intelligence is a semi-autonomous branch of the Royal Navy, which is charged with conducting advanced research, foreign reconnaissance, and covert strikes as deemed necessary by the Crown. They have dedicated marine detachments and some Obstinate battlecruisers at their disposal, yet prefer making precise incisions with smaller units. Further, they are known to exercise leeway with the finer regulations of war and diplomatic relations.
Little is known of the shadowy organization known as the Gallic National Intelligence. Few solid details survive of their early days, although whether this is on purpose or accident is currently unknown. It is known that they operate, at least partially, under the Royal Navy, however many of their operations are no doubt hidden to their superiors there.
Tasked with keeping the Gallic War Machine at it's peak, technologically, they are known to run and sponsor a large variety of research projects and institutes, as well as understanding the principles behind Bretonian technology, on-board LD-14. Back home, they have the Calais Research Facility and Melun Research Institution to drive their technological desires.
After the Battleship Embrun's success in Manchester, following the Royal Navy's Starvation Doctrine, control has been passed to the Royal Intelligence, to continue it's mission against the Bretonians, where their reduced operational constraints allows for ruthless efficiency in the task.
