Located on the very edge of Mer Mediterainee and orbiting Planet Istres, Monte Carlo was built by the Junkers in 690-695 AGS. Yet, they are not the only party who operate and maintain the large station. Brigands, Corse, Council, and other groups have reportedly purchased large portions of the station for their own purposes. It is a large facility that is frequented by visitors of very versatile origins. Travelers from all around Gallia come here to get almost unrestricted access to Nox and whatever other forbidden substances (and activities) they are willing to try out. Freelancing traders come to buy and sell a wide variety of goods. Mercenaries come looking for lucrative missions and bounties offered by lawful and semi-lawful groups. Pirates find a place where they can sell the goods they were lucky enough to snatch. Many criminals simply use the station as a place to hide from authorities.

Just like its namesake, Monte Carlo is also famous for its casinos and night clubs. While not as dangerous as most pirate bases, the freeport is possibly the best way for a Gallic civilian to touch the bounds of what's forbidden in the Crown-ruled worlds. Prices on Monte Carlo are fair, and thousands of various ships carrying tourists dock there every year. Somehow those ships are very rarely attacked by pirates, who prefer to pick off transport convoys heading to other destinations.

The events of the Second Gallic War that lead to the role of the Junkers in Sirius espionage made the operation of Monte Carlo more complex for the Junkers, as their relations with all Gallic unlawfuls became quite tense. Yet, the freeport administration tries to distance itself from the rest of the faction and from political issues in general, attempting to resolve local conflicts without outside interference.
