Planetary Bodies

Planet Nuremberg

Planet Nuremberg
First charted in 539 A.S., after the discovery of the Munich system in the same year by a Kruger survey vessel, the planet Nuremberg was largely ignored for nearly twenty years, despite a pleasantly temperate climate, with large tracts of plains and savannah that were suitable for farming and settlement. Kruger was instead more interested in the Schwarzwald and Alps clouds, which contained significant amounts of cobalt and silicon, and constructed several small automated mining platforms within the nebulas.
In 557 A.S. a jump gate was constructed, connecting the Munich system with Frankfurt, and civilian traffic was able to move freely into the system for the first time. Upon further inspection of Nuremberg, it was agreed to begin colonisation immediately, and hundreds of thousands of people from across Rheinland flocked to the new planet in the hopes of securing some of the available land for themselves. Deep Space Engineering soon moved in to begin construction on a series of trade lanes, and the Battleship Erlangen was stationed in orbit of Nuremberg to maintain order.
Nuremberg's oceans were soon revealed to be largely unsuitable for fishing, as most of the dangerous oceanic predators, such as the Pirasharq, quickly destroyed any imported fish stocks. On the land it was a similar story, and it was discovered that the initial planetary scans had missed the dangerous Gimeni worms that inhabited the soil across much of the planet. Virtually all of the imported crops also failed to germinate, despite seemingly ideal conditions. After several years, science teams from Planetform were able to determine that a chemical in the soil was responsible. It was soon found that the skin of the Gimeni worm secretes a chemical that kills any plant life not native to Nuremberg.
In despair, many of the planet's population started abandoning Nuremberg and returning to other parts of Rheinland, leaving the planet largely deserted, until in 738 A.S. when Daumann and Republican Shipping jointly purchased the planet from the bankrupt Rheinland government in order to build manufactories for the construction of military vehicles. As such, many of Nuremberg's current population and available land is devoted to the manufacture of the heavily armoured vehicles, and the heavy industry has slowly been polluting the planet.
Despite the population climbing above 675 million as of 816 A.S. and the increasing demand for imported food to Nuremberg to support them, the Rheinland government has refused to grant construction approval for any farming concerns, despite continual lobbying by the legitimate political arms of the LWB and Bundschuh, especially after it was discovered that the native grasses could be safely ingested by a number of animals, including pigs and cows, thus making it safe for livestock farming. This has angered the LWB and the Bundschuh, and to some extent even the Unioners, and raids on the planet have become fairly commonplace over the last few decades.

Nordlingen

Nordlingen
A rocky, airless moon of the planet Nuremberg, pock marked with craters. Despite extensive surveys, no significant amounts of any valuable resource have been discovered and it is unlikely that anything will be done with this planetoid beyond the occasional weapons tests done by Daumann and the Rheinland Military on its surface.
Location: G/5

Planet Bodensee

Planet Bodensee
A beautiful gas giant in the Munich system, Bodensee is comprised of over 70% hydrogen and helium, with the remainder of a various number of other gases, but due to the strength of the planet's gravitational pull no attempts have ever been made to use gas miners to retrieve the resources. The swirling clouds of hydrogen and helium in the upper atmosphere of the gas giant are an aesthetically stunning vista that is clearly visible from the viewports of the orbiting Augsburg Colony.
Location: C/6

Planet Rosenheim

Planet Rosenheim
Rosenheim is an unremarkable barren world with thin atmosphere and ancient planetary crust devoid of any easily accessible resource deposits. Raubling Station was constructed in the planet's near orbit.

Alps Cloud

Alps Cloud
A beautiful cloud of green dust and asteroids in the north of the Munich system, the Alps Cloud contains significant amounts of Silicon that Kruger Minerals has mined for centuries, although in recent decades it has suffered considerable setbacks after continual raids on the mining platforms by pirates. Up until a few years ago, Corsairs were often sighted in the cloud and it was believed to be the primary meeting point for the Unioners and Corsairs. Since the ending of the Corsair-Unioner alliance, the Unioners have used the cloud as a hideout to launch attacks against Ingolstadt, and it is believed they have a base located somewhere within its confines.
Location: F/3

Schwarzwald Cloud

Schwarzwald Cloud
A beautiful cloud of green dust and asteroids in the west of the Munich system, the Schwarzwald Cloud contains significant amounts of cobalt that Kruger Minerals has mined for centuries, although in recent decades it has suffered considerable setbacks after continual raids on the mining platforms by pirates. The Unioners and the Bundschuh often frequent the cloud, sometimes launching attacks against Augsburg Orbital Colony. However, the colony is well protected, and the pirates may only succeed in hijacking the occasional trading convoy. The Bundschuh are also believed to have a base in the cloud, although its location is unknown.

Space Stations

Augsburg Orbital Colony

Augsburg Orbital Colony
The Augsburg Orbital Colony originally began construction in 781 A.S., but did not finish until 805 A.S., due to a shortage of funding. It was an effort by the Rheinland government to experiment with orbital cities in order to increase available living space without the need for planetary environments. Built around a modular design for easy upgrades, with large food producing biodomes and efficient solar and nuclear powered storage batteries, it is one of the largest space stations ever constructed, with a current population capacity of over a million people.
Unfortunately, due to the final cost of construction, stretched out over twenty five years, the apartments onboard Augsburg were too expensive for the average citizen to afford, and as a consequence it has since become a refuge for the wealthy elite who don't want to live on the cold and cluttered planets of Rheinland.

Battleship Regensburg

Battleship Regensburg
Commissioned in 811 A.S. at the Oder Shipyards, the Battleship Regensburg started out patrolling in New Berlin and Frankfurt, until being assigned to the Munich system after the Unioners launched a raid on Ingolstadt, killing over seven hundred people onboard the station. Despite the presence of the battleship, it appears that the Unioners have boldly increased their attacks on shipping and facilities within Munich, and the escalating hostilities between Liberty and Rheinland is leaving the Rheinland Military unable to send enough reinforcements to adequately secure Munich's trade lane system from piracy.

Leipheim Base

Leipheim Base
Secretly constructed in 762 A.S., Leipheim Base lies in the south eastern reaches of the Alps Cloud. Carved out of a large asteroid within the nebula, the base is home to a large number of Unioners, many of whom prefer the seclusion that Leipheim offers, compared to the more well known Pacifica Base in Bering. Occasionally the LWB are seen at Leipheim, after having made a raid against Nuremberg in order to sabotage the military vehicle production facilities in their never ending efforts to make the Rheinland government use the planet for food production instead.
Prior to the end of the Corsair-Unioner alliance in 816 A.S., Leipheim Base was the primary Artifact smuggling route into Rheinland space, and large numbers of smugglers often docked with the base to pick up consignments of artifacts for transportation into the core systems. Since the alliance ended, the number of smugglers has dropped, but the base is still heavily tied into the Artifact trade and there is still a considerable amount of the contraband moving through the base, waiting to be shipped into the core systems.

Ingolstadt Station

Ingolstadt Station
Ingolstadt Station was constructed in 730 A.S., a considerable amount of time after the initial colonisation of the planet Nuremberg, in order to handle the ever increasing exports of military vehicles from Nuremberg. Most of the space onboard the station is taken up with secure storage bays for the vehicles, and dozens of ships dock with the orbital facility every day.
After the Nomad War ended in 801 A.S., Republican Shipping decided to move its centre of operations to the Munich system, and although there are large corporate offices planetside, Ingolstadt Station was expanded considerably with additional modules to accommodate the increased administrative workforce, and now serves as the headquarters for the Republican Shipping corporation throughout Rheinland.
In recent years security has been tightened considerably around the station after the Unioners have expanded their operations in the Munich system. After an attack by the Unioners in 815 A.S., which left over seven hundred personnel onboard the station dead, Republican Shipping has requested additional weapons platforms to bolster defences. The Rheinland Military appears to be dragging their feet in delivering them however, although in truth this is mainly due to the hostilities between Liberty and Rheinland.

Eltmann Outpost

Eltmann Outpost
Eltmann Outpost is a Bundschuh base that lies in the southern end of the Schwarzwald Cloud. Constructed in 809 A.S., it is the Bundschuh's first attempt to expand their operations outside of Frankfurt, and the first base they have ever built, after the construction of Bruschal Base in 718 A.S. many of the Bundschuh initially decried the financial expenditure of creating another base, but have since agreed it was for the best, especially since the money has begun flowing in from raids on transports throughout the Munich system, in additional to the occasional attack on Augsburg Orbital Colony. Occasionally the Red Hessians and the LWB will be sighted at the base, usually after raids on military convoys travelling from Nuremberg to Frankfurt.

Aluminium Ore
Aluminium is a silvery white, ductile metal classed in the boron family of chemical elements. Because aluminium is very chemically reactive, on planets it may only be commonly found combined with any of over 270 other minerals. In space, where Aluminium is formed by the action of gamma rays on lighter atomic elements, the metal may be found in its pure elemental form. Aluminium is very resistant to corrosion and possesses a low density, is nonmagnetic and nonsparking, and is a good thermal and electrical conductor. Aluminium is extremely important in the composition of various alloys essential to transportation, construction, and aerospace applications.
