The Independent Miners Guild has built this base inside one of the Westray Field's larger asteroids in 801 A.S. Certain rare metals were discovered in the field, however, economical significance of this area proved to be lower than initially expected. A backwater base with low importance, it was populated mainly with miners who preferred its relative safety over the riskier mining operations in Tau-23 and Tau-37.
That all changed in 817 A.S.
A series of explosions in the distant minefield, thought to be nothing more then an Outcast blockade and avoided by the mining crews, revealed a jumphole within. As Council ships emerged and made contact with the mining crews, it became apparant the minefield hid much more then Outcasts.
In the wake of the Gallic Naval assault on the Council, Dounby found itself briefly on the frontlines as the attacking Gallic Naval forces poured out into Orkney. Operations were suspended, but have since resumed, with most of the raw minerals harvested from the Westray field being purchased by passing Gallic transports returning from the Bretonian front.
