Battleship Delaware was constructed during Liberty's conflict with Gallia, intended to take the place of the Battleship Gettysburg. However, manufacturing setbacks preventing the completion of the warship, as well as the increased aggression of the Gallic Royal Navy, forced the Liberty Navy to deploy the Gettysburg to the front lines of the conflict. This, military analysts hoped, would have allowed enough time to finish the new Mitchell-class vessel, and allow the aging Monument-class to be decommissioned.
The strategy was in vain, however, as the fierce fighting in the orbit of New London cost the Liberty Navy several of their veteran fleets, the Gettysburg among them. With the recapture of Leeds and the collapse of the Gallic Crown, the war was over for Liberty. Having finished construction very shortly after the conflict, Delaware and their supporting fleet took the place of the Gettysburg, with greenhorn crew who hope to fill the shoes of the now destroyed battlegroup.
