Montpellier is a defensive installation built by the Navy over two hundred years ago to maintain the minefield blocking the Orkney Jump Hole. In 817 A.S. it was heavily damaged by a suicide attack of a Council Cruiser that carrying a massive fusion bomb. Most of the station, however, survived, and after breaching the mine field Montpellier was hastily repaired.

In the wake of the Gallic Royal Navy invasion into Languedoc, this station was the only installation the Council sought to defend. Using the minefield to their advantage, a number of ships along with the stations defenses delayed the invading Royalist forces as long as they were able. The station was eventually abandoned after sustaining heavy damage from Navy capital ships. Still unstable, it is currently manned by a skeleton crew while the GRN decides if it will repair the station, or scuttle it.
