Personal Background
Early Life
Andrew Moray was born on Planet Cambridge to a large, wealthy family that owned large amounts of land. His family were proudly Scottish, among very few families in Bretonia preserving Scottish blood and culture. He attended private school as a child, and went on to receive a scholarship to study business at the University of Cambridge. While at Cambridge, he was a member of the collegiate rowing team, and won the championships at the Henley Royal Regatta in New London in his senior year.
He received both a bachelor's and master's in business administration from Cambridge, and after graduation ended up working for a major pharmaceutical company on the planet's surface. He was successful there, reaching middle management, but had his eyes on the stars and the opportunities presented there.
Initial Triumphs
He moved to New London, and made a small early investment in Gateway Shipping. Two years later the pharmaceutical company he worked for was bought by Cryer, and he was laid off with a hefty severance package. He kept the money and then enlisted in the Bretonian Armed Forces, where he served for six years and received an officer's commission. He retired from the Armed Forces after reaching the rank of Lieutenant.
After leaving the BAF, Moray sold his Gateway stock for more than seven times what he'd purchased it for. Using this money, he started his own company on New London, seeing an opportunity in the business of transshipping goods from space to planetary retailers. His company, Moray Transshipment, was hugely successful after a year of hard work, and began to quickly expand to cover a respectable percentage of the market.
A New Idea
Moray spent years developing and improving his company, but eventually became enamored with a new idea after a visit to Cambridge Research Station. There he encountered several scientists who insisted they had discovered a way to make a device that could cloak a starship for an extended period of time. Moray spent the next year frequenting the research station and meeting with the scientists, developing a pitch for potential investors for a station that could produce these cloaking devices at a more efficient rate than anywhere else in Sirius.
Once he had a team of investors on board, he sold Moray Transshipment to Gateway Shipping and launched his project, becoming a majority shareholder in and the CEO of "Blackthorne Applied Research, Inc". He purchased several spaceships, including a Bretonian "Shetland" train that he named "The Highlander King". He intended to locate his research and development installation in New Tokyo, where he would take advantage of readily available production materials to develop a new type of cloaking device. The company received proper permits from the Kusari government, and was within a day of beginning construction when the government of Kusari passed a new law outlawing cloaking devices and their research for all private enterprises.
Already deep into debt, Moray was forced to sell off nearly everything he'd bought for the station in order to pay back his angry investors. He managed to keep the King, but lost virtually everything else. His one-immaculate reputation tarnished in Bretonia, he has decided to head to Liberty and seek a company that could help him get back on his feet financially.
Rebuilding
Mr. Moray has seen a rapid rise at Deep Space Engineering, and within a few months of being hired became a relatively high-ranking member of the Logistics and Engineering divisions. His vast experience and work ethic was noticed by corporate officers and in late 819 Moray was assigned to construct and oversee a cloaking device lab aboard Doe Industries Space Port, a modular station in orbit of Planet Pittsburgh.
Despite a few setbacks, such as a single major security breach early in the lab's development, Moray has excelled in his work at DSE, and looks to have a bright future ahead of him once again. Despite this, he is known to keep to himself, surrounding himself only with his scientists and the crew of the Highlander King, and his apparent arrogance have made him some enemies within the organization.
In the closing days of 819, the products of Moray's lab were netting the company massive profits, and the Does saw fit to promote Moray to Head of the Research and Development department of the company.
