David Grigori is the Director of Commerce for the Independent Communist Miners' Guild, a group of people who started off as a sub-division of the IMG and fully embrace the ideals of communism. Teachings such as Egalitarianism and traditional Marxism helped form the way the ICMG looked at the vast universe around them. The ICMG was formed on some of the basic communist teachings, such as equality for all, no matter the gender, age, or race. Also the belief that social classes are tools used to keep progress slow and minimal for the general populace. As such every citizen of the ICMG is treated equally and fairly no matter what.
The Origins
Grigori originally was born on Planet Cambridge in the year 777 A.S. to relatively middle-class parents. He received a good education at high-quality local schools, and attended the well-known Cambridge University. He worked as a pharmacist for around five years before losing his job and being urged by a close friend of his to seek employment in another system. He travelled to Leeds and was quickly hired by the BMM corporation as a miner. Within a week he had become a supervisor onboard a large mining rig in the Dublin system.
The IMG
Harsh conditions, poor pay, and near-constants raids by the Mollys, coupled with poor defenses and harsh reprisals against workers who complained led Grigori to steal away to the derelict battleship in Dublin, maintained by local members of the Independent Miners' Guild. (Breaking his three-year-long contract to work for BMM.) The miners on the Hood were quite good to him, however, and he soon joined the loosely affiliated miners onboard the Hood.
The Taus
Tired of the dangerous Dublin system, and craving adventure, Grigori made his way to the Tau-23 system, which very few people knew of at that time. The newly-constructed Java Station was looking for miners willing to take a risk, and Grigori fit the bill perfectly. The Outcasts in Tau-23 at that time were much less aggressive towards the mostly defenseless miners, even though that isn't the case today, and Grigori has witnessed firsthand the escalation of hostilities between the two groups.
The ICMG
When the ICMG was formed by Roger Sterling and Mack Holt in 816 A.S., Grigori instantly "jumped on the bandwagon," as it were. The ideas of communism had always appealed to him, especially after the appalling conditions he lived with for over a year on the BMM mining rig. He quickly climbed through the ranks, showing his dedication time and time again, and today he is the main leader figure for the Guild, (though it is, in truth, more of a small nation than a simple guild now,) and holds the official duties of the Director of Commerce.
