DSCore: Colossus

A beast of a ship designed to laugh off the concerns of traversing the burning asteroid fields of Dresden and the Omegas, the Colossus is equipped with special armor plating and enormous cockpit shields that grant it the ability to plow through whatever obstacles are foolish enough to loom before it, natural or otherwise.

More than one such vessel has come into berth with fresh detritus of pulverized asteroids melded into her frame... Or a would be pirate not quick enough to get out of the way while issuing vain demands.

Outdated Review (4.86)

Review (4.86) I have had a Colossus for a while now and I have to say that, while not the most reliable ship around she gets the job done nicely. As you likely would have noticed, this is one of the house trains, a 5K transport with very little in terms of armament (ironically you can see that there are more spots to mount guns on the ship’s ‘chin’ that are not used) and maneuverability, but she makes up for it with a respectable amount of armor and a decent front profile to allow her to get through asteroid fields with ease, most impacts just deflect the ship up or down a few degrees rather than sending it flying wildly to the side. Flying her in house space can be a little annoying, as the Colossus has a bad tendency of missing trade lanes. In addition my biggest peeve with the ship is that when you enter cruise you cannot hear the engines activate because they are so far away from the camera in space, so you have to rely on the HUD for knowing if you are actually in cruise. Also cockpit view is rather messed up, the engine effect from the ship is actually in the middle of the windshield. Negative bits aside, she is a good ship, slips through the Omega-7 rock fields with ease, fits the Rheinland aesthetics nicely. Her weapons are rather pathetic, only 3 guns, 1 on the back, 2 on the head, and they are too far apart to hit things very easily… I personally would advise against mounting high end armor, you will not be fighting with this thing at all, and if you do there is no real way to fight back…so more cargo for you! Nicely slipping through the jump gates, great military german looks, much better than slower Stork, Collosus covering the view a bit when you docking, but no problemo at all, great transport ship for Republican Shipping traders ;)
