Thrusters are devices capable of temporarily increasing the speed of the ship they are attached to. Unlike the standard ion engines mounted in modern ships, thrusters are powered by a direct fuel intake. Thrusters use a chemical reaction to propel the ship itself, instead of processing it to power a different engine. This means that the device is unaffected by electromagnetic pulse weaponry, and as a result is invulnerable to the effects of cruise disruptors.
Typically thrusters increase the speed of fighters and freighters to 200 metres per second due to their light weight. On larger ships (transports, gunboats and cruisers) the thruster is only generally able to increase the speed to 140 metres per second.
