Biography

Nina Koch, 798 A.S.

Childhood and Youth

Erika Keller, was born on Planet Holstein as Nina Koch, daughter of Karl-Heinz Koch and Bettina Koch. Nina became separated from her biological parents due to job reasons and grew up at a family in a tough and non-child-friendly environment at a terraforming platform on Planet Holstein. Both of her adoptive parents were Daumann employees, worked and lived at the platform. Life on Holstein was difficult, most notably for children, but also for small Daumann employees like Nina's new parents. Neither they had the opportunity, nor sufficient credits to leave their place and start a new life somewhere else.

Nina slowly began to develop a hatred for her adoptive parents after eight years of isolation, till the day when she attempts to commit suicide on Holstein. With luck she survived the tragic incident, but will never recover from her injuries, mentally as well as physically. A deep scar on her left shoulder and limitation of agility of her left arm, is the consequence.

One of her aunts on Planet Hamburg adopted and took care of her after the incident at Holstein. Nina could finally visit the school on Hamburg and find some friends too. She breaks up the contact to her adoptive parents on Holstein entirely and began to study at a police academy in the year 795 A.S. Her injuries didn't stop her to start a career as police officer at the RFP. Nina learned to suppress pain, caused by her injured shoulder, and even passed the police combat tests.

Career as Police Officer (798 - 800 A.S.)

With the successful graduation of Nina's training at the academy, she became assigned to a police department in New Berlin, where she served as police officer for about two years. With the start of the Nomad War, the nomads were able to infiltrate department for department, since nobody was aware of the threat and suitable security measures to prevent further infection did not exist during this time. Many police officers in Rheinland became infected by nomads, inclusive of Nina's division. She worked within the affected area for long time, without to know her superiors aren't human anymore. Nina didn't realise the constantly growing threat at the office or in Rheinland anyway, at the beginning.

After her colleague began to behave weird and observed her on unfriendly wise, Nina began to investigate. Soon she attracted the attention of the Büro der Marineintelligenz and the one of the Infectees as well, who were both not delighted about Nina's internal investigations.

Life after the Nomad War (800 - 819 A.S.)

After Nina realized she was being followed by her colleagues at the office, she makes use of her contacts at the BDM and disappeares from one day to another. Thus the police registered her as public enemy and began to search her. The BDM gave her a new life with new identity and offered her a job as agent. From this day on, she was no longer known as Nina Koch and accepted a name suggested by the Büro... "Erika Keller". The BDM made sure to falsify police documents of her and let it look like Nina Koch died by an accident, but the false documents didn't stopped the nomads to continue.

Since the Büro knew about the nomad threat inside of Rheinland, they began to form an entire department, tasked with the elimination of the infiltrators. Erika became a valuable member of such a team, learned to observe people and identify Infectees, as well as to fight them effectively. With the shattering of the Nomad mindshare, Büro squadrons used the chance to defeat the remaining nomads in Rheinland with a final assault. Erika became famous for her heroism and brutality towards nomads. During this time, she also helped the BDM to develop own security methods, which should help to fight infested humans more effectively in future.

With the end of the Nomad War, the colonies slowly recover from the crisis. Erika decides to settle down on Planet New Berlin and teach at a Military Academie in the subjects: Sports, Counterespionage and Military Science, for about 17 years.

In the year 819 A.S. she denies a received job offer from the Büro, until the Direktor personally asks her to rethink her decision. After Direktor Koch turned out to be her brother, she finally agrees and accepts the offer; a decision which will change her life entirely and later turns out to be a terrible mistake with no escape.

Contact with Nomads (819 - 820 A.S.)

With the formation of a seventh BDM department (The Kommissariat), the Büro required trustworthy personnel and offered Erika a new, well-paid job. Erika receives access to the recently new formed, secret department and is being provided with an "Oder-" class vessel, later known as the U-177.

During this time, she makes an crucial contribution in several level black operations and assists the Büro at its nomad research projects, until one day: With the failure of the Gleipnir Device, her entire ship and its crew became infested by nomads. What exactly happened in Omega-9 and what caused the failure of the device, remains a mystery. The only evidences that can tell what happened aboard of the U-177, are located in its ship's computer.

Nobody noticed any changes so far, with exception of Direktor Koch, who has received a small part of Erika's personal logbook and therefore tries everything to conceal what happened, in order to find a way to free his sister from the curse and rescue her. According to official reports, the Kommissariat doesn't even exist and the U-177 is stationed in Omega-9 since 820 A.S., tasked with the survey of space and is still busy with measurements today, if one can believe the reports. In the meantime, Erika moves through Rheinland unhindered and uses the security gaps of the BDM, in order to get access to key figures and infect these. Only the time can tell, when this will lead to another nomad war.

Life as Infiltrator (820 A.S.)

Erika serves as host of a Nomad Incubus named K'tesh. The incubi has healed Erika's injured shoulder entirely and has also "improved" her physiology in many different ways. K'tesh is giving her access to stimulating emotions as some kind of reward for obedience, what could be the reason for her perfect self-control and the high level of voluntary cooperation towards her parasite. Since K'tesh rarely controls its host entirely and Erika obeys her incubi voluntarily, so is she still able to act humane without to show any symptoms of nomad influence. She leaves therefore the impression to be still human, which is a huge advantage towards fully controlled hosts. Thus she is more suitable to serve the nomads as observer and infiltrator instead of a soldier.

K'tesh prefers to infest people with authority, but on occasion it also chooses simple soldiers with ties to such people. Erika's methods can be unpredictable and are usually covered as routine inspection, which can take place in excursions on military vessels and often lead to interrogations or even worse. K'tesh seeks seclusion and tries to avoid public locations whenever possible. It prefers to lure its victims into abandoned places, in order to infest or kill these with utmost efficiency and without disruptions. Erika's incubi is able to manipulate the minds of those around her by creating tempting and irresistible illusions, in order to seduce and control them. These kinds of infectees use human instincts as vulnerable point and are often described as sirens.

By using her charm and authority, Erika travels through Rheinland unhindered, bypasses security controls without much effort and gives her parasite the chance to spread the infection within higher ranks.
