As hostilities in Sigma increased, relations with Ageira broke down over exclusivity contracts. Ageira maintained that the Libertonian troika comprised of Deep Space Engineering, Universal Shipping, and Ageria Technologies ought be granted monopoly shipping rights for the Ageira White Boxes, and Police powers to interdict any shipment of the same in Rheinlandish space. When the Bundesrepublik denied that request, Ageira then demanded Rheinlandish laws be changed to protect the White boxes, while offering very little in exchange and ultimately threatening to use its monopoly power to leave Rheinland without a gate connection to the Sigmas.

Frustrated industrialists and patriots both, chafing under the transfer of wealth from Rheinland to the Liberty Big Three then pressured the Bundesrepublik to push back against what they saw as jingoistic Libertonian interference in Rheinland, just as Gallia was opening its trade to Kusari and Rheinland. In late 825 AS, The Rheinland Ministry of Transportation entered into negotiations with EFL Oil & Machinery to design and install a system of Gates and Lanes for Rheinland.

EFL hopes to demonstrate the superiority of its processes and technology with the Sigma-15 gate trials, and then expand into the rest of the Rheinland market.
