After the destruction of Battleship Oubli and numerous support craft, the Royal Navy decided to dispatch an additional Valor, the Betheny, and its accompanying fleet into the Leeds system. As the Gallic invasionary fleets continued to press onwards, despite their losses, the fleet commodore adopted a far more cautious approach when holding the Leeds front and securing the vital supply lines. Battleship Betheny and its forces were previously tasked with orbital support duties for the Gallic forces fighting on Planet Leeds, and to act as a rearguard to help cover the Carcassonne fleet's advance.

In 824 AS the Battleship Betheny received orders to redeploy to the Magellan system where it acted as rearguard in wake of the Carcassonne's advance. With the Carcassonne now having advanced into the California system, the Betheny's task was to further push the front line and advance into Cortez system. Despite it being a vital supply route between Liberty and Bretonia, the brass of the Royal Navy deemed it more important to focus its efforts onto California, while the Betheny continued to tie up the Liberty forces in the Cortez system and interdict as many supply convoys as possible. However, with the Battleship Yukon's extremely conservative use of offensive force, the Betheny has entered a tug-of-war with the Liberty forces, in which neither side seems willing to commit to a full scale engagement - yet.

Betheny’s presence in the system ground trade to a crawl, even with the deployment of the Yukon as a counterweight. While the Alberta-Poole hypergate lane kept Bretonia afloat, its eventual discovery and sabotage by Royal Intelligence put the focus of war planners on both sides back on the crucial artery of Cortez, and the Betheny battlegroup in particular. Quickly outnumbered and outgunned, the Betheny nevertheless held the line in a desperate last stand, crippling the Yukon as it went up in flames. Now little more than a burning husk, the Betheny stands as both a rare trophy for the beleaguered Allies, and a blow to the Royal Navy’s once unshakeable belief in their war strategy.

The Betheny still remains a true hero of the war in most Gallic minds.
