CASUALTIES


While combat injuries receive the most media coverage and public attention, Casualties related to disease and accidental injury are just as devastating to a unit's combat effectiveness. While fatalities immediately lower the combat strength of a unit, Casualties also impose a burden on the military's logistics network, which must transport, feed, and provide medical care to soldiers who cannot take care of themselves or contribute to the war effort until they recover from their injuries. Prompt attention to Casualties usually means the difference between eventual recovery or impending death.
