House Space is generally rich in both resources and population, and is also considered to be fairly safe due to the heavy presence of military and police forces. Geographically, the Houses are mostly located in and around the center of their respective Sector, with Liberty being located in the middle of all other Sirian Houses and Gallia being the sole House in the Gallic Sector.

Located at roughly the center of the Sirius Sector, the Liberty systems are both rich in resources and traffic. Fifteen systems are considered part of the Liberty Republic: New York, Texas, Colorado, California, Pennsylvania, Kansas, Ontario, Alberta, Minnesota, Yukon, Illinois, Virginia, New Hampshire, Quebec and Alaska. Only New York, Texas, Colorado, California and Pennsylvania contain habitable planets; Illinois and Virginia are off-limits to the general public, the former only being open to the LPI and the latter being military space; Alaska is officially designated a "Navy equipment testing site" and all information regarding it is tightly controlled; Kansas, New Hampshire and Quebec are not populated at all.

The Kingdom of Bretonia, located in the western part of the Sirius Sector, is made up of ten star systems (New London, Cambridge, Manchester, Leeds, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Dublin, Dundee, Poole and Salisbury), out of which three include populated Planets: New London, Leeds and Cambridge. In addition, the Kingdom also lays claim unto six further star systems: Inverness, Chester, Lewis, Orkney, Tau-23 and Tau-31. Out of those systems, however, Lewis has been almost entirely overrun with Gaians since the late 740s and in practice is well beyond the control of the Bretonian state, whilst Chester and Inverness remain undeveloped at present due to a lack of discovered exploitable resources and current budget constraints of the Bretonian Crown. As for Tau 31, 23 and Orkney, control of the systems is hotly contested by the Kusari Empire and it appears that the outcome of the present war will decide their fate once and for all. The Barrier spans throughout Bretonia and geographically separates it from the Liberty Republic.

The fate of the Sol System, humanity's war-torn cradle, is largely unknown to the inhabitants of the Colonies, however it is presumed that it now is completely under Coalition control. It consists of 8 planets, one of them habitable, the others partly colonized at the time the Sleeper Ships departed to C-110, and one bright G2V-class star which gives the system it's name. Since the foundation of the Colonies, no contact has been made with ships coming from the Sol system and another war with the Coalition seems highly unlikely, given the sheer distance between Sol and C-110. Some theories speculate about a Nomad assault on the system, however, they are usually disregarded as there seems to be no proof for a Nomad presence outside the Sirius Sector.

The Colonies

With it's center approximately 1000 light years away from the Sun, the Sirius Sector is a medium-sized, but very dense star cluster located in the Milky Way galaxy's Orion Arm. The current version of the Sirius Atlas counts 123 surveyed systems, which are distributed between 5 regions:

 • House Space, the Sector's "Core Worlds"
 • The Independent Worlds, worlds between two Houses but under neither's control
 • The Border Worlds, remote, partly unexplored, pirate-ridden systems
 • The Edge Worlds, largely unmapped and often dangerous systems at the Sector's edge
 • The Nomad Worlds, tightly guarded by it's inhabitants, the Slomon K'Hara

The Gallic Sector is split into Core Worlds and Border Worlds. Currently, only 5 systems located in the latter region are accessible. Gallia is located some 700 light years to the northwest of Bretonia.

The Houses

There are 7 major Houses in the Colonies: Liberty, Rheinland, Bretonia, Kusari, Gallia as well as the Nación Maltesa and Imperio del Corsario. The Colonial Republic claims to be a House of it's own, but, while having it's own government and enough resources to maintain a small military, they are nowhere near the size of the other Houses; some argue that the Gas Miners Guild and the Independent Miners Guild are similar to the Colonial Republic in these matters.

Nebulae

Inside view of the Crow Nebula

The Colonies are home to many large and small nebulae, the largest of them being the Crow Nebula, the Walker Nebula, the Barrier and the mysterious Edge Nebula. While all but the Edge Nebula have been thoroughly mapped, traveling through Colonial nebulae can still be quite dangerous; they often contain dangerous pockets of radiation, explosive gases and deadly asteroids, and they also make perfect hiding places for the many pirate and terrorist organizations of Sirius as scanner and radio waves often have great difficulties penetrating them and the poor visibility inside the clouds hides them from plain sight. Adventurous Freelancers should consider reading our guide to the many hazards they may encounter on their travels before leaving the relatively safe House space and venturing into the depths of the Colonial nebulae.

Stellar anomalies

A Baxter Anomaly

Sirius and Gallia are home to a quite large number of stellar anomalies, containing not only a quite large number of Baxter objects but also major anomalies like the Badlands, the Privas Planetary Cluster (lovingly dubbed the "clusterfrak" by Royal Navy soldiers) and even an awe-inspiring black hole. In addition, large numbers of jump holes and gate paths span a gargantuan web throughout the Colonies and enable economically feasible, extremely fast interstellar travel.

Beyond the Colonies

Not much is known about what lies outside the Colonies. No stellar bodies have been surveyed during the flight of the Sleeper Ships and few is known about the fate of Sol. Edge World astronomers observed the Sun going nova, so it is presumed that the Solar System has been devastated either by a natural catastrophe or due to the actions of the Coalition.
