Nauru is a warm, bone-dry desert world with an atmosphere that is breathable although unpleasant, due to the large concentrations of hydrogen sulphide prevalent in the air, although at 0.0051 ppm it presents no health risk to humans. Initial surveys detected huge amounts of Iridium ore in the planetary crust, as well as many ancient structures and ruins dotted across the surface. The Corsairs eventually constructed a number of mining bases in conjunction with the Zoners in order to extract the Iridium, which is a critical component in antimatter based weaponry.
The Order and the Zoners previously had science teams on the surface investigating the ruins, but no life has so far been discovered on the moon. The ruins contain elements of technology that is used by the Slomon K'Hara, but they were conclusively proven as having not been constructed by them in 815 A.S. by the eminent Order Xenoarchaeologist Kendra Sinclair. Little in the way of any clues or evidence as to the identity of the real builders remain, however, although several science teams continue to sift through the remainder of the structures.
When the Core finally completed the construction of the Nauru docking ring in 825 A.S. with assistance from Ageira, the moon opened up for large scale colonization by the group. The few Zoners and Order that had chosen to remain on the moon in pursuit of the secrets of the ruins that hadn’t been discovered quickly left the moon, choosing a hasty retreat over the certain death that being discovered by the encroaching Core would bring. Now able to quickly ferry supplies and manpower to the surface, the Core has begun large scale operations to thoroughly claim the world. Settlements have begun to crop up, as the ruins are quarantined and the Iridium Ore ripped from ground.
