Description

While the Gallic Royal Navy is tasked with the protection and security of Gallia's borders and more advanced military action, the Royal Police are those sworn to protect the citizens loyal to Crown and Country. Patrolling the lanes and gates, the officers of the GRP do their duty to ensure that commercial and civilian interests alike are safe from the threat of those who would seek to disrupt their way of life. Although the lines between the Navy and Police have blurred recently due to the ongoing Civil War, never has it been more important to put the safety of Gallia's citizens before all else.

Historical Information

The foundation of the Royal Police dates back to the early years of Gallic settlement. Three years after the sleeper ship Gallia touched ground, the Royal Police was formed. Consistent of the descendants of former Alliance soldiers, the organizations primary aim was to supervise the security of colonial establishment first on New Paris, then as Gallia's explorers made progress, on universal levels.

During the hundreds of years, the role of the Police changed. The Royal Navy took charge of supervising the extension of Crown's influence, the elimination of pirate bases and the jurisdiction of the Police itself, while the latter was trusted simply with keeping the core systems under control. Since all larger hostilities were treated by the Navy, the Royal Police soon had very few things to worry about, giving room for laziness and the failure to carry even those few tasks out efficiently. All that eventually gave room for developing corruption within the Police force, mostly Corse members kept officers under their influence to gain access to Government and Navy contacts.

The darkest period within the Police was shortly before and during the First Gallic War. A lot of officers left the force and joined the Council or the Corse, using Royal technology to fight against the system they were sworn to protect. Most of those who remained didn't cease to be corrupted; officers were supplying information, refused to open fire on Council targets and kept terrorizing the civilian populace. After the war, the Royalty realized the line has been crossed. The King issued the Navy to commence the event called "Le Grand Nettoyage" (The Great Cleansing), which resulted in the elimination of 126 Royal Police officers and 38 Government officials and another 500 arrested, without open Council defectors counted.

Following the retaliatory actions, the corruption within the Force lowered, but didn't cease. The Royal Police became the symbol of injustice and mischief, no matter how a lot of new members tried to fight against the image. The Navy was issued to supervise the Police between the two civil wars, they were rewarded with radical privileges, such as destroying Police ships if caught during committing piracy and they often lived with the occasion to do so. With the new order established and new leaders in power, the corruption, back alley deals, and general terrorization of the Gallic populace has been quelled or simply pushed to an area where no one can find it. Certain records go missing, accounts are doctored, and certain officers simply disappear. The Royal Police has learned from its mistakes.

The general opposition between the two factions was gone when the Second Gallic War erupted. The Council's reopening of the Gallic borders towards Sirius and therefore the fear from the unknown that waited beyond succeeded in restoring the will to co-operate between the Navy and the Police Forces. Only a very few Police Officers joined the Council when the war erupted, some say it's because the corruption has ceased, others say it's because the officers see a new business to be made from Sirian ships, either way, most policemen and women became radical haters of the Council and the Sirians.

Right now, that the inner systems have been sealed, the Royal Police outside works in co-operation with the Navy to win the war and gain access back home. Even though the Navy has priority on the frontlines, the Police also have to encounter a lot of Council ships during their patrols. As the battles are getting more and more violent, corruption is yet again returning in minimal doses to the force. Secret deals and back-alley exchanges are rare, but not unheard of. The people who tend to hear of it, suddenly disappear adding to the suspicion of the Royal Police.

Duties and Goals

With the eruption of the Second Gallic War and the isolation of the outer systems, the Royal Police units caught in the warzone has a whole line of duties to uphold.

Patrolling Royal Space

Daily patrols on the territory upheld by the King's men (Dauphine, Burgundy, Lorraine) are to be made to ensure the integrity of Royal authority and safe trade/supply routes. Only enter Languedoc if it's proven to be really necessary and even then, do not leave the territory under Royal juristiction. Do NOT enter Champagne under any circumstances. The specific patrol routes are to be selected by the Commanding officer on field.

Preservation of Royal authority

In times of war, enemy ships are ravaging all around Gallia and not all of them can be kept in check. If Council or Maquis ships are encountered during a patrol and Navy help cannot be summoned, the Police must do everything in its power to preserve the King's authority. If the Navy calls for help in a battle, the Police is to help as soon as possible. A loyal officer must not be afraid to sacrifice his life for the Crown.

Protecting Gallia's isolation

Gallia has been sealed for 700 years with a reason. The Council rebels opened the borders with throwing Royal authority over, therefore all Sirians who step our borders are considered collaborators and enemies of the Crown. They are to be instructed to leave Gallia immediately, force is to be used if they are not willing to co-operate. Sirian traders carrying our goods are considered thieves. Sirians carrying their goods into our territory are considered saboteurs. Of course, there have been and will be examples of Sirians trying to pose as Gallian traders, some are even cunning enough to get their hands on Gallic ships. Escort them to the Gap for prosecution, destroy them if they resist. The same applies to Junkers or fake Junkers who try to break His Majesty's orders by aiding Sirians by either trading with them, assisting them in their presence or in whatever other goals they have in mind.

Dealing with piracy

The Brigands pose a minimal threat during the war, but they are to be destroyed if they attempt to pirate His Majesty's supplies. Of course, there is a place always reserved for a Brigand in the Gap. The Corse is to be avoided, they are a very dangerous and a well-organised faction. Deal with them if it's absolutely necessary, but then you have to make sure you give them everything you've got.
