Lewis was discovered by the Gaians almost simultaneously as they fled from the Gallic horde in Faroe. Not wanting to draw the invaders attention to their home at Islay Base, they sought to lead their pursuers astray and headed some distance behind Planet Gaia. There they found the jump hole to Lewis and baffled the Gallic hostiles when they suddenly disappeared from long range scans.

After having their operations in Faroe stumped by Gallic forces, the Gaians were eager not to make the same mistake and soon began to heavily fortify their positions there. Glendale Base was hastily constructed as the systems main hub while Sandur Base's construction was underway.

But history having a tendency to repeat itself soon did. Upon completion of Glendale Base a jump hole to Orkney opened up in the system. The Gallic forces now surrounding the Gaians saw an opportunity to reunite their primary fleet with the cut off attack groups stationed in Edinburgh. The second onslaught of the Gallic horde upon the Gaians was crippling. Glendale Base became Glendale Supply Depot under the command of the Gallic Royal Navy and their military support still moves through the system on their way to Leeds.

The crippled Gaians, furious at yet another desolation of their guard system plotted their revenge upon the horde. The now constructed Sandur Base in seclusion of the Coldwell nebula is last remaining bastion of Gaian control in the system and now serves as a platform to raid military supply transports traversing the void.

Coldwell Nebula

The Coldwell Nebula is a large field of interstellar ice particles fallen into the gravitational pull of the Lewis star, possibly left over from the system's creation. Sensors work poorly in the field.
