This article has not been verified to be up to date for the latest version of the Discovery mod. The last edit was made on 14.09.2012 (DD/MM/YYYY). You may help by updating it, often by using the code generator.
Transports are very large cargo ships, and were not pilotable in the original Freelancer. With a cargo capacity above 650 units, they are much larger than Freighters, but are also quite expensive, are much less agile, and have a slower cruise speed. The train series of transports are much more expensive than similar sized vessels, but they have an inherent resistance to cruise disruptors because of their engine configuration. Only the train disruptor and nomad disruptor can be guaranteed to stop them, essentially making them immune to the majority of NPCs' attacks. Player characters outfitted with the special cruise disruptors will still be effective. Trains are not resistant to trade lane disruptions.
When purchased, Transport class vessels will show up as a "Freighter" on the ship purchase dialog. This is because the Freelancer game itself was never intended to have these ship classes available to players, and cannot be fixed. Refer to the ship info card to review the actual ship class.
Price note: All prices listed are for full package price, which includes hull and standard equipment.
Civilian Transports
Civilian transports can be flown by almost any pilot, and do not require a special ID. They are typically used as a step up from Freighters, with more cargo space, heavier Shields, and Class 4 Turrets in place of the fighter turrets. They are also slower and less agile.

Commercial Transports
Commercial transports have cargo holds that are capable of holding more than 3,600 units, and therefore cannot be used with the Freelancer ID. The pilot must carry a faction ID that gives the privilege of flying these ships. Only a few ships in this class have hardpoints for defensive equipment such as Countermeasures and Cruise Disruptors, and most of these ships are far less agile than the civilian transports, making them much more succeptible to piracy attempts. However, these ships also have much greater hull strength on average, which gives them better survivability in a fight.

Battle Transports
Battle transports are commercial transports that are expected to see combat. These ships have 10 or more Class 4 Turrets, above-average hull strength and power plants, but slightly less cargo space.
