Formerly a rearguard in Languedoc and then Orkney, the Montmorency Battlegroup was the spearhead of Royalist advance into Council held Roussillon. Montmorency's airwing traced a failed Council strike on Issoudun drydock to a previously uncharted jumphole, and the ship and her battlegroup breached the system, eventually securing it. The Montmorency's victory in Roussillon paved the way for the colonization of the Gallic Hebrides, and the ship is in large part responsible for the Royal Enclave's very existence.

As the situation in the the Bretonian theater deteriorated and supply lines in the Taus were cut, the Montmorency was briefly relocated to Leeds to act as a rearguard against a possible Libertonian flank from Magellan. The attack never came, and the Montmorency retreated back to the Hebrides under orders from the GRI shortly before the Leeds gate was breached.

The Montmorency now stands guard at the border of Confederal Gallia and Enclave space. Her airwing is currently working overtime and stretched thin, trying to cover inbound and outbound traffic between not only the Roussillon jumphole, but the Tau-23 hole as well. This is expected to resolve once Fort Albi is successfully transplanted to its new location near the Tau-23 jump corridor.
