Starting its life as an ambitious prototype that sought to take advantage of an otherwise static market, test pilots agreed that the Mantis' sheer size made it easy prey for bombers. However, Ceres Innovations prefering to address these issues the same way as a sledgehammer can unlock doors, believed it was more novel to opt for a complex structural redesign. The lynchpin of the ship is the hardened spine that enables a reinforced and souped up array of weapon adapters, allowing the ship to endure searing blows but provide befitting replies. The generous tolerances to punishment that the ship offers has made it popular among pilots who prefer such direct approaches, the fact this correlates with popularity among criminals is dismissed by the company as slander.
