The Rheinland Civil War was a civil war that was fought between 827 A.S. and 828 A.S. in Rheinland, with the Imperialists putchists who seized power and most of Rheinland, and the Federalists, initially deposed from power by Imperialist forces in 827 A.S., effectively becoming a government-in-exile.

The Rheinland Civil War is considered as one of the "bloodiest" conflict and involved many belligerent, however, it is also one of the shortest conflicts in the history of Sirius, lasting approximately a year.

Background

After months of apparent instability in the region of Rheinland, the Imperialists began a coup d'état against the Rheinland government, supported with large numbers from the Rheinland Military, forcing the Rheinland government - now renamed Federalists, to flee New Berlin. The Federalists, aided with the Marinenachrichtendienst (MND), and loyalist forces, notably the Koblenz fleet, which remained loyal to the Federation. After the successful coup, an unknown emperor has been sworn in.

An unusual decision by the Federal government has also been witnessed, as the Bundschuh has been considered their allies in their fight against the Empire.

As the civil war continues, the Red Hessians and their ally, the Coalition were also involved in the civil war, as they fought against both the Federal and Imperial government. A battle in the Cologne system exhibit their arrival, as the Red Hessians began their incursion in the system. The Bounty Hunters Guild was also briefly contracted by the Rheinland Empire against Hessian incursion, who exploited the civil war as a mean of striking against both.

Slowing down of the war and following armistice

The Rheinland population has been unusually and rapidly weary of this civil war, and this weariness resulted in mass unrest throughout Rheinland, both in Federal-controlled territories and Imperial-controlled territories.

The civil war is now officially over, thanks to the Holstein Accords, signed and ratified the 02-22-826 A.S. on Planet Holstein.

Aftermath

The Rheinland region was majoritarily under Imperial control, and most Rhenish companies were supporting the Emperor, namely Kruger, Daumann and Republican Shipping (who renamed itself as Imperial Shipping). The Federal Republic of Rheinland is now merely a rump state, with active bases in Thuringia and Munich. Planet Weimar, has welcomed many civil servants and officers, who were evacuated from Planet Stuttgart. It is now the seat of the Federal Republic, with an estimate of merely 50,000 inhabitants.
