− | ===Planet Lyon===
| |
− | : Planet Lyon, Presqu'ile<br/>Planet Lyon, Croix-Rousse
| |
− | : Lyon is a planet in many ways similar to Orleans. Its discovery in 119 AGS raised questions about the possibility of early sentient interference, in order to introduce similar carbon life forms and similar climatic conditions on those planets. Despite the fact that Lyon, New Paris and Orleans are located only several light years away from each other, and all proved habitable for humans without any terraforming, no remnant of alien presence was found on the planet.
| |
| | | |
− | : Lyon is different compared to the aforementioned planets, here life has taken longer to evolve within the same time frame. The planet is dominated by a class of species very similar to Earth mammals. They have significant differences related to warmer temperatures, and living in Pinophyta (Pine-like) forests at most latitudes. Most Lyon animals are relatively small, with the largest being not much larger than a human. Domestic cows are currently the heaviest terrestrial animals present on the planet. Lyon is one of the most lucrative places for hunting in Gallia. Animals are abundant, not threatened by pollution or overpopulation, and hunting is allowed almost everywhere, with licenses forming a notable amount of income for local communities.
| + | =Areas of Interest= |
| | | |
− | : Colonization of Lyon started in 286 AGS. It was a well-prepared enterprise that allowed millions of people to transfer to the planet during the initial years of colonization. Population grew steadily, and in 730 AGS nearly 800 million people lived on Lyon, making it the third most populated planet in Gallic space. The population growth has been slowing down during the last 80 years due to somewhat high unemployment rates around the planet, and nowadays it is projected that the population will start declining in the next 10 or 20 years if the trend continues. Lyon does not possess significant heavy industry. Most of the planet's economy is agriculture and light industry, as well as the extraction and processing of oil.

− | ===Planet Riorges===
| |
− | : Riorges is an average-size gas giant located within the Saone asteroid field. Parts of the field are orbiting the planet at different velocities, and some astronomers describe Saone as an oversized system of rings. The planet itself has a distinct yellow atmosphere due to large amounts of ammonium hydrosulfide and other compounds containing sulfur. As with most gas giants, the planet's atmosphere mainly consists of hydrogen and helium.

− | ===Planet Feurs===
| |
− | : Feurs is a barren world with significant geological activity. It contains fairly rich deposits of a number of valuable ores. However, high seismic instability rendered establishing a mining colony economically unviable. Feurs has a thin atmosphere consisting mainly of carbon dioxide. No life forms currently exist on the planet.

| |
− | : Ecully is a small barren moon of Planet Lyon. Its surface is mostly covered with silicon dioxide, quartz sand. Surprisingly high geological activity smoothes asteroid impact craters, so no large craters can be seen on Ecully's surface.

− | ===Planet Jardin===
| |
− | : Jardin is a peculiar planet that has an old inactive core, making it virtually lifeless in geological terms. The world once had a thick atmosphere, but had lost it long ago. Currently its atmosphere is very thin, consisting mainly of inert gases that condense to liquid when it gets cold enough. Jardains' surface is almost fully covered with asteroid impact craters. Jardin has two relatively large moons, La Fouilouse and La Ricamarie, with similar geological histories.

− | ===Roanne Production Facility===
| |
− | : Roanne facility was initially a prominent mining station built by Gallic Metal Service in 392 AGS. At that time it was the largest and most technologically advanced mining facility in Gallic space. However, the surrounding Saone Asteroid Field did not have as many asteroids with significant ore concentration as GMS researchers anticipated. In 594 AGS, mineable areas of the surrounding field were almost completely depleted, and GMS made a decision to convert Roanne into a large production center with habitats for numerous workers, specialists, and even higher management. The construction was personally overseen by one of the most famed GMS directors, Eugene Arquette, who spent most of his life on the station. After Arquette's death, the class designation of the station was officially changed to his name. Over time, Roanne became the primary off-world headquarters of the Gallic Metal Service. It is a tradition that the chief executive of the company spends at least one third of each year onboard the station, personally overseeing the production process.
| |
− |
| |
− | : There is quite a lot to oversee: Roanne houses several independently operating production plants and has over eight thousand permanent inhabitants. The facility is one of the central hubs of space travel in the Lyonnais system, and the primary producer of superalloys in Gallic space. With Lyonnais being one of the safest systems in Gallic space, the station and its surroundings are rarely threatened by pirates. However, GMS maintains a sizeable defensive fleet in case an attack occurs, and several platoons of Royal Navy Marines are maintained through GMS funding to ensure internal station security in addition to the security personnel of the company.

− | ===Luxury Liner Belleville===
| |
− | : Luxury Liner Belleville is one of the well-known cruise vessels operated by Bouvet Space Entertainment group. The liners are built by EFL Oil &amp; Machinery in the Laval Shipyard, and the corporation owns and maintains them jointly with Bouvet. EFL also provides security and logistic support for the liner's operations.
| |
− |
| |
− | : Belleville is one of the latest vessels of its class, its first independent flight taking place in 703 AGS. It is most commonly seen in the Lyonnais system, but it occasionally visits Ile-de-France, Orleanais and Berry. The liner is currently stationed within the spectacular Givors Debris Field, not far from the wrecked components of the Givors Shipyard devastated by a Maquis bomb in 665 AGS. The debris that formed the Givors Field partially consists of shipyard parts that floated away after the explosion. Outer parts of the field were formed earlier, when massive ship construction took place in Givors. (More...)

| |
− | : Gleize is a Unione Corse base located in the Miribel-Jonar field not far from Planet Lyon. It is one of the most populated bases of the Corse in Gallia, housing more than 7,000 inhabitants. It is not known for certain when Gleize was established, but it is most probable that the first hallways of the base were dug out and pressurized in about 380 AGS. Like many asteroid bases, it was expanded without much planning for several hundreds of years, and currently the base is rather hard to navigate. Yet few outsiders get a chance to venture deep into Gleize's hallways. Corse consider this base to be their own safe haven where visitors are not welcomed, and guests are mostly limited to the few common areas around the docking ports.

− | ===Battleship Venissieux===
| |
− | : The Normandie class was designed in the 660s as a versatile battleship capable of both offensive and defensive actions. Since 670 AGS until 710 AGS it was produced in massive numbers by the Royal Navy shipyards, but the battles of the Second Gallic War revealed several critical flaws in the ship's construction. After that, no new Normandie ships were built. However, existing ships were retrofitted to install better power arrays, improved offensive capabilities, and better internal security sensors to prevent capture. Normandie battleships form a bulk of Gallia's Sirius invasion forces, along with more recent and better equipped Richelieu battleships and rearguard Charlemagne battleships.
| |
− |
| |
− | : Battleship Venissieux is one of the Normandie class battleships usually stationed in various regions of Lyon and Orleanais. Its current assignment is guarding Luxury Liner Belleville. According to recent information received by Gallia's internal security department, the Maquis are planning a large-scale terrorist act against the liner.

− | ===Montbrison Storage Facility===
| |
− | : Montbrison is a relatively large shipping platform built by IDF Shipping in 486 AGS. Montbrison's location was previously occupied by a smaller station, serving as a transit point for shipments to Lyon colonists and Saint-Etienne Space Colony. In about 480 AGS, trade lanes were built around Lyonnais, and a new type of shipping station was necessary. IDF got the contract and built the station in less than eight months.
| |
− |
| |
− | : Montbrison was refurbished several times, the last time in 677 AGS. Unlike some of the other shipping platforms, the amount of cargo handled by this facility did not decline due to the increased fuel capacity of modern transport vessels that usually do not need any refueling points between their port of origin and destination. In the safe environment of Lyonnais, a large share of the local shipments are processed by local companies and independent traders who often use Montbrison to exchange goods and store large amounts of cargo delivered by larger companies. IDF also organized commodity trade on the station, and distributes Mining Machinery to GMS mining facilities around Gallia.

− | ===Saint-Etienne Space Colony===
| |
− | : Saint-Etienne was built in 429 AGS by Tannier Industries as one of the more remote space colonies in Gallic space. Circa 610 AGS, when Tannier was restructured, the site was purchased by Ile-de-France Shipping. Before the IDF transfer, the facility was not prospering. With a capacity of 8,000, it housed less than 3,000 people, and the station was notorious for a high unemployment and poor accomodation standards.
| |
− |
| |
− | : IDF dismissed most of the crew and moved out the inhabitants. The station's structure was renewed and expanded with new habitats. In 619 AGS, Saint-Etienne was re-opened for settlers, becoming one of the more convenient and affordable space settlements in Gallic space. Saint-Etienne lies away from major trade routes and areas of pirate activity, making the colony very safe and calm to live in. The facility does not have notable industrial capacity, but it is almost fully self-sufficient, with hydroponic farms and food production available to serve the colonists' needs. The station also produces a wide array of Luxury Consumer Goods, most of which are exported to other stations and planets by IDF and their partners, allowing the station's residents to enjoy a comfortable middle class income.

− | ===Pelussin Base===
| |
− | : Pelussin Base was constructed within the Rhone Nebula circa 500 AGS. The base is an important outpost of the Brigands in the otherwise calm Lyonnais system. The system is under tight Police security, and instead of being a staging point for pirate raids, the base mostly serves as a black market outpost. This means that most ships coming and going from Pelussin hide within fields and nebulas and avoid contact with Gallic lawful ships.

− | : Pelussin's permanent population is not too large and is estimated to be around 1,500 to 2,000 people. However, the base is one of the primary hubs of the slave trade in Gallia, and it is designed to house a lot more people for limited periods of time. Since the problem of overpopulation is not unfamiliar for Gallia, acquiring Slaves on Gallic planets and some unlawful stations is rarely a challenge. Most Slaves were initially homeless people, drug addicts, and various socially undesirable individuals who were searching for quick and easy earnings. They signed ridiculous (and mostly illegal) contracts that bound them to their employers for dozens of years without an option to quit. After being transported to pirate facilities, the papers they signed served no other purpose than to demonstrate that the Slaves sealed their fate themselves and there wasn't anyone else to blame. − | ===Saint-Exupery Space Port===
| |
− | : Saint-Exupery's construction was completed in 551 AGS. It replaced a base named Oullins that previously served as a transit point for some of the shipments going to and from Lyonnais. Over time, the need for a shipping platform in Lyonnais' orbit was no longer present. Bouvet Space Entertainment chose the location to build the off-world base of operations for their cruise liner fleet, and chose Solar Engineering to build and administer the station. Since then, Bouvet's presence was reduced to a necessary minimum, and Solar uses the station for a wide array of services, including short term off-world recreation, ship-to-ship transfers, and storage of valuable or hazardous cargo that is not allowed planetside.
| |
| | | |
− | : Saint-Exupery appeared in New Paris' news headlines several times when journalists discovered the presence of Brigands and even Maquis onboard the station. Solar Engineering succeeded in discrediting most of those allegations, however. The corporation keeps large parts of the station off-limits for civilians and even for Gallic law enforcement.

− | : The rapid industrialization that followed the settlement of the Sirius Sector has resulted in large fields of Scrap Metal, the detritus resulting from extensive manufacturing and mining operations. These debris fields present both a navigational hazard and a potential second-stage resource, so a small cottage industry has sprung up among those who collect scrap metal and resell it at smelting plants.

− | : Dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) is odorless, tasteless, transparent, and absolutely essential to human life. Roughly 75% of the human body is composed of Water. Deprived of Water, most humans can only live three days. The process of dehydration is a painful one, as tissues shrivel and vessels shrink in a desperate bid by the dying body to preserve its remaining vital functions.

| |
− | : Ore is a type of rock that contains minerals such as metals which can be extracted through mining and refined for use. The ores must be processed to extract the metals of interest from the waste rock and from the ore minerals. Many organizations prefer to receive unsmelted ores in order to keep the additional cost of their production and finish within the local economy, as opposed to paying markups to foreign laborers to do the work for them.
