Gunboat is the designation for the smallest and most agile of capital ships. While none are produced explicitly for civilian use, Kishiro Technologies freely markets the Ahoudori and as a result it is very popular with pirates and other independent pilots.
Gunboats are typically used to kill fighters and other small craft either solo or in groups, but sometimes as escorts for Capital Ships.
Some maintain a terminological difference between "Gunboat" and "Gunship" (see Gunboats & Gunships), but the Discovery mod makes no such distinction.
When purchased, these vessels will show up as a "Freighter" on the ship purchase dialog. This is because Freelancer itself was never intended to have these large ships classes available for play, and cannot be practically or safely fixed. The real class is listed on the full infocard.
