After the Sigma-13 gate was attacked in a Wild incursion, relations between Rheinland and Ageira broke down over its repairs, largely due to a change in Rheinland law which revoked Universal Shipping's right to ship Ageira White Boxes through Rheinland. Ageira Technologies maintained that the Libertonian troika comprised of Deep Space Engineering, Universal Shipping Inc, and themselves ought retain their monopolized shipping rights over the Ageira White Boxes, but the new law had left their primary shipper Universal unable to lawfully transport gate or lane components in Rheinland. The Bundesrepublik argued that a Rheinland corporation such as Republican was more than capable of providing shipping to Frankfurt, but Ageira disagreed, fearing it a threat to their monopoly. With the Bundesrepublik unwilling to accept Universal over a local shipper, Ageira continued to demand that Rheinland laws be modified to protect Universal's right to ship White Boxes, and over the course of many meetings the discourse broke down, ultimately leaving Ageira with no option but threatening to use its monopoly power to leave Rheinland without a gate connection to the Sigmas.
Though the gate was eventually repaired, this exchange between Ageira and the Bundesrepublic frustrated industrialists and patriots both, who, chafing under the transfer of wealth from Rheinland to the Liberty Big Three, then pressured the Bundesrepublik to push back against what they saw as jingoistic Libertonian interference in Rheinland, just as Gallia was seeking to strengthen relations with Rheinland. In late 825 A.S., The Rheinland Ministry of Transportation entered into negotiations with EFL Oil & Machinery to design and install a system of Jump Gates and Trade Lanes for throughout the Federal Republic.
EFL hopes to demonstrate the superiority of its processes and technology with the Sigma-15 gate trials, and then expand into the rest of the Rheinland market if they are willing to make the switch to the Gallic corporation as their sole provider of FTL travel. The opportunity and challenge this project offers to EFL have made it one of their most exciting projects, attracting talent from across Gallia, with eventual hopes of constructing a long term EFL production facility in Rheinland
