New Berlin is the capital system of the [[Federal Republic of Rheinland]], the system was settled in 3 A.S, with the landing of the SS Rheinland on Planet New Berlin. Recent studies done by a group of government scientists estimated that the main star of the system, a white giant, will cease to exist in the next 300 years, due to the fact that the star will finish its hydrogen reserves.
An interesting factor of the system is given by the presence of a special space station, constructed by Daumann Heavy Construction, The Ring. The Ring was developed to gather solar energy and heat, and direct it towards the frozen Planet New Berlin. The space station was a total success.

Planetary Bodies
- New Berlin is, much like the huge contrast between rich and poor in Rheinland, a planet of extremes. Each day and night on the planet lasts for nearly a standard year, with the night side plunged into a frigid, bitter winter with temperatures as low as -35°C in the equatorial regions, and the day side having a slightly more temperate summer where the temperature just about climbs above the freezing point of water. Despite the extremely hostile environment, the planet is very close to the abundant natural resources of the Walker Nebula, so the crew of the sleeper ship Rheinland chose to land on New Berlin in 3 A.S., making it the capital of Rheinland.
- The colony grew quickly, with deep space industry the primary concern of the fledgling government. The Aachenfeld and Harzfeld asteroid fields quickly became the focal points of huge mining enterprises, stripping asteroids of raw materials to fuel the orbital industrial platform that would eventually become known as the Ring. Food shortages became a huge problem in the formative years, due to New Berlin's climate being largely unsuited to crop growing outside of the huge hydroponics farms that were constructed across the surface, although population control measures introduced by the first Emperor managed to make the situation slightly more tolerable. The planet's population as of the 816 A.S. planetary census was just over 1.3 billion people, making it one of the more populated planets in the Sirius sector, despite the harsh climate conditions.
- Rheinland's military and economic power continued to grow exponentially over the centuries until the Empress Jessika Leicht, pressured heavily by Kruger Minerals and ill-advised by the Imperial Navy's high command, declared war on the Gas Miners Guild in a surprise attack on Sigma 13 in 589 A.S. The war lasted for eighty years, going from strength to strength until, with the economy crumbling around them, the Imperial high command ordered an all-out last ditch attempt to take Sigma 13. This resulted in the Battle of the Yanagi Cloud in 668 A.S., which ended in the complete destruction of the entire Rheinland Imperial Navy.
- With its military might shattered and the economy in ruins, the then-Emperor Albrecht Friedmann was forced to sign a peace treaty in 669 A.S. with the GMG, acknowledging the sovereignty of the Gas Miners Guild over all of the Sigma systems. This final, humiliating act became the trigger for the Popular Revolution, which began on Von Rohe's Day in Dresden in 672 A.S., and quickly spread to the rest of Rheinland. Within five months, Emperor Friedmann had been deposed and a coalition government installed. Many promises of a glorious future for all Rheinland went unfulfilled in the chaos that followed the uprising, leaving many who had fought in the revolution with a bitter taste in their mouths.
- Rheinland, and in particular the New Berlin system itself, struggled for over a century to pull itself out of the economic slump left by the aftermath of the Eighty Years War, even more so after the Nomad War ended in 801 A.S. With the ascension of Kanzler Rheinhardt in 814 A.S., however, the economy took a major upswing, including the discovery of additional diamond fields in the Dresden system, increasing farming productivity on the planet Stuttgart and the military armaments industries in Munich gaining ground. As a result, goods and passengers have been flowing in from all corners of Sirius, and planet New Berlin is once again enjoying something of an economic and social renaissance.

Nebulae and Asteroids
Aachenfeld

- A mined-out asteroid field. Its proximity to the Ring and Oder shipyards has made it a favorite hiding place for Bundschuh terrorists, while Unioners prefer to hit the diamond convoys passing along the Trade Lane to the Kruger Minerals headquarters on Essen Station.
|
Harzfeld
Please upload an image of Harzfeld.
- A mined out asteroid field. Frequently used by Red Hessian pirates to attack Daumann and Kruger shipments arriving at the nearby Dresden Jump Gate -- or to make the occasional daring raid on the multitude of cargo ships docked at the Ring.

Ruhrfeld

- >>>WARNING: NAVIGATIONAL HAZARD<<<
- The New Berlin System was initially settled because of its abundant and easily accessible resources. But while the other asteroid fields in the area yielded their treasures with relative ease, the rich Ruhr Asteroid Field proved to be a treacherous terrain of toxic gases and radioactive pockets. The debris from many a destroyed ship still litters the area, providing ample fodder for local Junkers. Unioners and the LWB have also been known to take advantage of the natural cover provided by the field to attack nearby Trade Lanes.

- A mined-out asteroid field. Red Hessian pirates will often retreat into this field following attacks on the nearby Trade Lanes.

Space Stations
- One of the first large-scale projects undertaken by Daumann Heavy Construction, the Oder Shipyards, is the largest in Sirius. In the past the majority of the Rheinland Navy was constructed in its massive bays, but after the destruction of the Navy during the 80-Years War and the economic crash that followed, Daumann has been forced to transition into the less lucrative fields of commercial and civilian ship construction.

- The Ring is probably the most recognizable symbol of Rheinland and a source of great pride among its people. Originally a loose amalgamation of shipyards, habitats, manufacturing centers, and smelting plants built to support the first great push into space from the surface of New Berlin, the structures soon merged into the shape from which its name is derived. The Ring is now a single, massive complex that produces vital components for Rheinland industry.

- Originally constructed in 521 A.S., to oversee the transition of trade lanes and jump gates to Rheinland ownership after Interspace Commerce was all but forced to sign agreements to nationalise them, Bonn Station has since become the headquarters of Interspace within Rheinland, and is the station where all cargo being shipped out of Rheinland is insured for the journey.
- Thoroughly angry with having to wipe countless billions of credits of debt away almost overnight, after Kusari and Rheinland both nationalised their trade lanes and jump gates, Interspace Commerce has never been satisfied with the two hundred years of tolls it got in exchange, and it is for this chief reason that a good deal of animosity towards Rheinland and Kusari exists even today. As a result, Interspace Commerce often allows ships from the Bundschuh, Red Hessians and even the Unioners to dock and purchase supplies, and even going so far as to donate money to their causes or share information of cargo shipments with them.
- This has angered the Rheinland government considerably, although as yet it has been completely impossible to prove. However, the Rheinland Military has recently stationed the Battleship Strausberg outside the station to keep an eye on Interspace's activities.

- Dortmund Station is the primary processing facility for ALG Waste Disposal, one of the great Rheinland success stories and a leader in the field of waste disposal. While ALG handles the majority of waste disposal throughout Rheinland -- making Rheinland one of the cleanest industrialized houses in the sector -- teams are also frequently dispatched under special contract to handle industrial accidents in other colonies. Today ALG is expanding into the re-smelting of Scrap Metal and Toxic Waste to produce Alloys and MOX.

- Essen Station is the headquarters and primary manufacturing facility for Kruger Minerals, a once proud company currently experiencing hard times. Wishing to exploit the vast gas resources of the Crow Nebula despite claims made to the territory by the Gas Mining Guild (GMG), Kruger was a primary supporter of the 80-Years War. After that conflict ended in disaster, Kruger's capital was exhausted and the company persecuted. Today Kruger is attempting to rebuild by allying itself with ALG Waste Disposal.

- Despite the inherent dangers of the Ruhrfeld, including lethal radiation fields and explosive gas pockets, a large population of Junkers moved into the asteroid field and began building Kreuzberg Depot, which finished construction in 618 A.S.
- Most of the Kreuzberg Junkers spend their time sifting through the wreckage of ships destroyed in gas pockets or in fights with the local law enforcement who occasionally venture into the field. They also do a steady trade in artifacts and all manner of other goods that both the Corsair smugglers and Red Hessian pirates who dock at the station are only too happy to dispose of.
- Many LWB and Unioners also frequent the base to resupply while on their way to raid planet New Berlin, or repairing on their way back to their bases. It is also rumoured to be one of the waypoints for the illegal blood diamond smuggling rings that the Red Hessians are known to be involved in, though the diamonds are not actually acquired from here.
- The Rheinland authorities dislike the Junkers, but have so far made no attempt to remove them, as they provide a valuable service in clearing up dangerous wreckage and debris that not even ALG is willing to deal with, and so for now their presence remains tolerated, albeit barely.

- The Battleship Strausberg was initially scheduled for launch in 814 A.S., but due to a series of explosions caused by the Unioners at the Oder Shipyard, it was not launched until 815 A.S. Upon its commission it was immediately stationed outside Bonn Station, after the Rheinland Military High Command had become concerned about intelligence reports that Interspace Commerce is covertly supplying the Red Hessians and the Unioners. In recent years it has also been instrumental in reducing the amount of LWB raids from Stuttgart, and the Rheinland Military has so far resisted pressure by politicians to move the battleship to the Hamburg system in light of Liberty aggression.

- Kaiserslautern Depot is a key LWB base in New Berlin, crucial to all Rheinland revolutionaries operating in the system.
- It started out as a mining operation in the Saarfeld, and was reused as an ore storage facility after Kruger miners finished carving out the metals from its insides. Abandoned shortly before the Popular Revolution, it was later used by the Red Hessians as a temporary base during their raids into New Berlin. Several years later the aging depot would become a problem to maintain for the Hessians, as they continued transferring as many resources and personnel as possible to their war against the Corsairs in Omega-5. Instead of abandoning the depot completely however, it was decided that control would be transferred over to the emerging LWB instead. The Red Hessians still maintain a number of members on the station, along with the pilots from the Bundschuh, Unioners, and Junkers who stop by on business.
- As Kaiserslautern grew as a hub for the revolutionary elements in Rheinland, it also began to be used in a new endeavor: the repatriation of liberated slaves. Many slaves are brought, primarily from Liberty, and set free on Kaiserslautern. The logistics of this operation are mainly conducted by the Bundschuh. While many of the formerly enslaved attempt to return to their previous lives, a good portion end up joining the Hessians in their war in the Omega border worlds. A smaller amount join the LWB, under the promise of becoming independent farmers if Planet Stuttgart is successfully freed from Synth Foods' control.

Commodity Mining

- The rapid industrialization that followed the settlement of the Sirius Sector has resulted in large fields of Scrap Metal, the detritus resulting from extensive manufacturing and mining operations. These debris fields present both a navigational hazard and a potential second-stage resource, so a small cottage industry has sprung up among those who collect scrap metal and resell it at smelting plants.
