Syd was a criminal who survived the destruction of Freeport 7, but was later hunted down by Liberty Officials and shot. He was responsible for handing over the alien artifact that was originally found by Dr. Sinclair at Planet Pygar to Trent. This led Trent and Jun'ko Zane to search for an expert in these artifacts, Roland Quintaine.
