One of the largest mining facilities IMG has produced to date, Cardiff Mining Facility collects Berylliumfrom the nearby Cardiff Asteroid Field. Despite being a highly lucrative operation, corporate takeover attempts have been few and far between. The majority of the Beryllium mined at Cardiff is shipped to either Liberty or Rheinland. Some Beryllium was originally transported to LD-14 and Stokes for use in the fusion reactors and production facilities there, although with the invasion of the Leeds system by the Kusari Navy and then the Gallic Navy, the IMG ceased shipping to the station.

Normally a busy though uneventful place, war reached Cardiff in 826 A.S. With the IMG's refusal to lend Aland Shipyard to the Armed Forces after the destruction of Southampton and mutual declarations of hostility between the IMG and the Kingdom of Bretonia, the latter ordered all of the IMG's assets in Bretonia space seized. IMG decided to focus most of their efforts on defending Aland and abandoned Cardiff due to its unsustainable defensive location in Bretonia core space. The BPA team that was sent to board it found the station completely empty and only one man was injured in action, who suffered a sprained wrist.

The station was subsequently transferred to the administration of Bretonia Mining and Manufacturing, who have resumed beryllium mining operations in the Cardiff Asteroid Field.
