+ | The Hegemon is a real disappointment. First, with a loadout of Transport Mining Turrets, it does mine extremely well. However getting it to where it does its work is another story. I would have happily paid another 10 or 15 million for it to manuver well in asteroid fields and be less noisy. Let's face it, folks, you get what you pay for. And even at 37 million, which is 15 million more than the current list price, it will more than pay for itself in two trips (This is on the official server. Some servers offer prices that would pay for it in 1 trip). After that, it's all gravy. | ||

The Mining Ship has been built for one purpose : to mine. The priorities for a mining ship are
All these requirements were admirably satisified in the ship's design. The Miner has a tremendous armor rating of 145,000 which is far beyond any transport with comparable capactity can offer. The cargo bay is also very large, offering an excellent value. These properties make the Miner an attractive proposition for ferrying goods, with good reason. However, it's primary purpose is to mine -- that is to stand still, in a hostile environment, and be able to take whatever circumstances thrown at it. Potential buyers of the Miner should keep this in mind: it will do a mining job very well, but it has not been designed as a freighter or transport. If you are considering the purchase of the Miner for goods transport, you need to know this:
In some people's opinnion, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks and the miner is occasionally used as a transport ship. I am one of those people, so I can't recommend against using the Miner as a cargo ship. However, it comes with a strong sanity health warning. Prolonged exposure to the noise level produced by the mechanical workings of the ship is very wearing. Take long breaks between assignments.Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination Review by Halogen -- 04:12, 9 September 2009 (MDT) |

The Hegemon is a massive, heavily armored medium transport. It's high hull rating makes adding armor a very effective way of increasing it's survivability - a standard armor type 8 greatly adds to the amount of time this craft can withstand an attack, allowing it's pilot to withdraw to the nearest friendly base. Even more armor is, of course, better, but will cost a relatively high amount of cargo space on the Hegemon. The Hegemon is primarily for mining, but it can, in open space, be an effective attack/pirate transport as well. It has a good cargo hold size, generous turret layout that allows 8 turrets to fire forward and backwards. Even it's cruise disruptor slot can fire backwards, which can be a lifesaver if you are chased (this however is most likely a 4.85 bug). In open space a Hegemon will out-turn and outmaneuver a pirate transport. The ship has a number of serious drawbacks though.
