The Texas system is, more or less, a prison system. It contains four planets, only one being inhabited, four bases and Jump Gates to the New York, Hudson, and Bering systems. There are rumors of jump holes to the California, Pennsylvania, and Hudson systems. It is home to three major corporations and four criminal syndicates. This system was devastated due to the Texas Incident, and portions of it have high radiation levels.

Due to the war with Rheinland, there is a Trade Embargo being enforced in system. Violators are asked to drop their cargo or return from whence they came. Those who refuse are destroyed immediately.

For more information on the embargo, see Liberty Trade Embargo.

Planetary Bodies

Planet Houston

Houston is an arid world whose population has slowly increased to slightly over 450 million people; these mostly consist of what Manhattanites would term "the economically undesirable", many of them former inmates of the orbiting prison ships. The cheap labour force has attracted a number of industries, however, including a major Deep Space Engineering manufacturing plant and several factories specializing in Consumer Goods and Construction Machinery. The presence of phosphates in Houston's alkaline deserts has also produced a booming market in Fertilizers.
Houston's biggest industry, however, is fuelled by Liberty's criminal element; the vast majority of Libertonian prisoners are housed in the system and prison gangs from the Huntsville and the Sugarland, as well as rehabilitated former inmates looking to go straight, power Texan industries.
Both the Liberty Police, Incorporated and the Bounty Hunters Guild maintain their respective local headquarters on the planet; the Bounty Hunters Guild is thicker here than anywhere else in Sirius. After all, not only forcing prisoners to labour is profitable; capturing them is vital, too. Houston is most often "visited" by Liberty Rogues and Xenos; Outcasts also end up pumping Fertilizers here, as the Texas system is the furthest south that Outcasts are generally seen in Sirius.

Planet Brazos

A relatively small gas planet with no useful resources. The LPI Sugarland prison ship and recycling operation orbits nearby, dumping much of its toxic waste into the planet's gravitational well. Every criminal on Sugarland sees blue when waking up; for those labelled NCR, blue and grey will be all there is to see ever again.

North Dallas Debris Field

A medium-sized field of debris that is home to a large settlement of Junkers that have, according to sporadic reports from Liberty Police patrols that wandered into the area, constructed a permanent base amongst the scrap. Though criminals such as Rogues and Outcasts are frequently seen near Junker bases (indeed, Texas is the furthest south Outcasts are seen in Sirius), the North Dallas Debris Field remained relatively harmless up until several years ago, when Texan authorities first began to suspect the field as sheltering slavers. Despite an increase in patrols in the region, however, nothing definite has yet been proven.

Pequena Negra

>>>WARNING: NAVIGATIONAL HAZARD<<<
A smaller region of dark matter and radiation left behind in the wake of the Texas Incident. Pilots should not be fooled by the Pequena Negra's relatively compact size; its composition is precisely the same as that of its larger sibling and is equally lethal to unshielded organics. Despite the Pequena Negra's dangers, it experiences at least sporadic traffic due to its proximity to the criminals of the North Dallas Debris Field. The occasional Liberty Rogue can be seen escaping pursuit into the cloud, as there is believed to be a jump hole located somewhere inside the cloud; Texan authorities are under strict orders not to pursue into either Negra. The question is merely how many fugitives ever come out again.

West Dallas Debris Field

>>>WARNING: NAVIGATIONAL HAZARD<<<
This debris field is all that remains of the Jump Gate machinery whose malfunction in 500 A.S. led to the Texas Incident. Liberty technicians were testing the prototype of a new form of Jump Gate that was intended to revolutionize travel across Sirius; their prototype version was to connect California to Texas. Due to a bizarre and critical technical error, the Jump Gate, instead of initializing upon start up, fatally ruptured; the initial explosion, setting free copious amounts of dark matter and radiation, inundated half a star system before petering off. Texas' beauty was forever ruined in the disaster, with half the system made fatal to all organic life; its economy was shattered, and the system experienced a massive exodus that would cripple its productivity for the indefinite future. Curious pilots may see the cataclysmic Jump Gate's core here, although they are cautioned, for the area is heavily radioactive; for the most part, however, it's merely a refuge of last resort for criminals seeking to avoid capture by Liberty authorities.

East Dallas Debris Field

>>>WARNING: NAVIGATIONAL HAZARD<<<
A small debris field whose proximity to the F-Zone defensive line makes it a frequent destination for prison work convoys, but also a favorite meeting place for Xenos and local Rogues despite the best efforts of the Liberty Navy to patrol the area.

Grande Negra

>>>WARNING: NAVIGATIONAL HAZARD<<<
A large region of dark matter and radiation left behind after the Texas Incident of 500 A.S. decimated the system. Unlike the northern Pequena Negra, the Grande Negra is centred around the fatal Jump Gate's destructive epicentre; as a result, the Grande Negra is far larger than its sibling, although the two clouds' compositions are identical. Much of the Dallas Research Complex was forever swallowed by the Jump Gate's detonation; therefore, whatever resources and technology the Liberty government of over three centuries ago stored there might still remain, shielded from dark matter by storage containers. Archaeologists speculate that were the Grande Negra to be lifted, a perfect tableau of life prior to the Incident would be found; Police patrols going about their business, supply transports, and personnel carriers, frozen doing what they had been when the Incident happened. Other than treasure-hunters and suicidal explorers, however, no ships are ever seen entering this zone; even the truly desperate aren't mad enough.
Location: C/6

South Dallas Debris Field

The South Dallas Debris Field consists of the remnants of the Dallas Research Complex; those that hadn't been swallowed by the Grande Negra after the Texas Incident. The zone appears to house a large contingent of Xeno terrorists, and it is rumoured that they are engaged in constructing a more permanent home. Unfortunately for both parties, the jump hole to the Junker controlled system of Puerto Rico lies to the field's northwest; the Junkers and the Xenos, ancestral enemies, are engaged in a haphazard struggle for control of the region.

LPI Huntsville

li04_02_base
The prison ship Huntsville, under the control of Liberty Police, Incorporated (LPI), is commonly referred to by prisoners and locals alike (there's often no difference) as "The Wall". Xenos make up a large percentage of the population and are isolated here to minimize exposure to other inmates in the penal system, since for every Xeno that mingles with other prisoners, three leave jail several years later, although Xeno recruitment has been on a downward slope recently partially due to the LPI being increasingly effective at cracking down on the terrorists and partially due to said prisoner separation system. Apart from the prisoners and jailers, the Bounty Hunters Guild also maintains an onboard presence in the event of any unforeseen escape attempts. Outcasts who end up on Huntsville or Sugarland quickly die from cardamine withdrawal, or else are murdered by the Xeno prisoners.

Battleship Mississippi

li04_03_base
The Battleship Mississippi, constructed in 745 A.S., is easily the oldest ship still serving in the Liberty Navy. More than one high-ranking officer affectionately refers to the warship as "Old Miss"; though originally set to be decommissioned in 805 A.S., public protest (not very enthusiastically from the Sugarland and Huntsville) as well as the Mississippi's symbolic status (a foreboding icon of fear for Texan pirates, as well as a beacon for the often-oppressive conditions of lawful work in Texas) led to its being permitted to remain in active service until 825 A.S. at least.
As Sirius-wide technological advancements since the Nomad War have been comparatively modest, with perhaps a few exceptions (rumours of cloaking devices installed on Liberty Navy ships run rampant), the Mississippi remains nearly as effective as the day it was built. The Mississippi's primary duty is to provide additional security for the prison ships in orbit around Houston, as well as attempting to hold the Texas Line surrounding the F-Zone. The battleship has been under the command of Commodore Dane Caruthers since before the Nomad War.

Beaumont Base

li04_04_base
This Junker base is rumoured to be the centre of slavery in Liberty, although little has been proven to date; shady shipments often depart to the southwest, that much is certain. Hidden deep within the North Dallas Debris Field, it is frequented by Liberty Rogues and Outcasts; this is the furthest south in Sirius that Outcasts will ever come. Disgruntled Xenos seeking to displace their Junker competitors in the cardamine trade launch sporadic attacks against Beaumont; though the occasional missile breaches the perimeter, no serious harm has yet been caused. Said cardamine often changes hands here; drug runners hailing from as far away as the Edge Worlds make port here to fuel Liberty's orange dream. The Beaumont bar is perhaps Liberty's most prime source of gossip and information; murderers lurk in the shadowy corners, ready to divest themselves of dark secrets, adventurers discuss their latest exploits, and the Junkers know everything there is to know, for a price.

LPI Sugarland

li04_05_base
The prison ship Sugarland, under the control of Liberty Police, Incorporated (LPI), was built in 600 A.S. to handle the Huntsville's criminal overflow. Sugarland is particularly hard-time, as a smelter worked by prison labour operates around the clock to re-process scrap from the Texas and New York debris fields (Scrap Metal; the Texas Incident's sole advantage). Apart from the prisoner population, a large contingent of cops, Hunters, and representatives of ALG Waste Disposal (the sole Rheinland faction still permitted into Liberty) round out the personnel on board.

Mineable Commodities

Scrap Metal

The rapid industrialization that followed the settlement of the Sirius Sector has resulted in large fields of Scrap Metal, the detritus resulting from extensive manufacturing and mining operations. These debris fields present both a navigational hazard and a potential second-stage resource, so a small cottage industry has sprung up among those who collect scrap metal and resell it at smelting plants.

Scrap Metal

Premium Scrap

Moderately damaged hull panels, salvagable engine components and other ship parts that are too valuable to be simply thrown in the smelters. These salvaged parts can be refurbished by some shipyards, and put back into service. They are in demand at shipyards that do not have a steady supply of new parts.
