Liberty Police, Inc. (LPI) is a private company that handles the policing of Liberty space to interdict the importation of contraband and to prevent attacks on civilian and commercial traffic.
Synopsis
The LPI is what can be considered the remnant of the original, state operated Liberty Police organization. The Liberty Police Department used to be funded exclusively by the Liberty government, but after the crime wave of 620 A.S. was slowly sold off to a private security firm under the name of Liberty Police, Incorporated. This firm eventually took over the funding of the LPD completely, and as a result received nigh complete control over the Liberty police forces.
The new, privatized Liberty Police force was now operating without the need for government funding, turning their own profit by using the masses of captured criminals for cheap, forced labour inside their extensive prison stations.
The corporation is frequently criticized for its method of funding itself, and is accused of indiscriminately arresting and incarcerating people for even the smallest possible crime in order to feed its labor hungry prison machine. Despite these criticisms the organization continues to thrive on its methods, the Liberty government not interfering in any way as long as they don't have to pay for the police expenses.
Organization
The LPI is split into five divisions, four of them responsible for each of the house systems and one for management. Management is the division in control of the corporation as a whole, its policies and its future directions. The other four divisions form the core of the LPI actual presence in space, and are named after the main system they are in charge of:
New York Division
New York is where the Headquarters of the LPI sits; as a result it generally has a higher concentration of officers than anywhere else in Liberty. This is where the Police force reacts the fastest, and where Liberty law is upheld to the highest degree.
Colorado Division
Colorado has only one police base: Denver. All LPI patrols in the system base from there. Colorado suffers from a large Xeno presence, especially in the Silverton asteroid field. Colorado Police are especially urged to attack confirmed Pirate and terrorist ships on sight.
California Division
California has one police base: Los Angeles. Despite the number of facilities however, LPI patrols there are less dense than in other systems due to the supposed lower overall concentration of criminals in that system.
Texas Division
Texas is widely regarded as a prison system. It has little in the form of infrastructure, bar its extensive orbital and planetside prison facilities. It is home to the infamous LPI Sugarland and LPI Huntsville prisons, and most of the Liberty Police forces in space there are concerned with the security of these facilities. Due to the volume of Xeno attacks in that system, the LPI has a substantial force positioned there, always ready to react.
