Newcastle System

Newcastle is a system controlled by Bretonia, it houses the industrial might of Bretonia's Borderworlds Exports. The system generates a considerable amount of traffic due to the presence of the Lancaster Trade Center, as well as various mining efforts by the IMG. Recently, Planet Carlisle has become the focus of a joint effort by Planetform, Inc. and the Cambridge Reaseach Institute to rid the planet of dangerous bacteria in order to pave the way for future colonization. This has made the Newcastle system the target of the Gaian terrorist group whom, in addition to the Mollies and the Outcasts, make up the majority of the unlawful forces within the system. Rumors also exist of a large extra-terrestrial complex on the outskirts of the system, although the Bretonia Armed Forces continues to assure people that such a complex does not exist, and any alien ruins that are found are to be avoided at all costs by civilians.

Large cloud of ice asteroids. Gaian eco-terrorists frequent the field; they prefer to avoid military patrols, but civilian ships are not advised to enter this area without escort.

A large field of ice asteroids. Substantial Outcast activity in the field is well-known to traders going to and from Scarborough, and it is rumored that an Outcast base was built inside the largest asteroid in this field.

Notable events

The Occupation of Belfast Production Facility

In 795 A.S., the Mollys attacked the Belfast Production Facility. They launched an all-out offensive using all of their limited gunboats and most of their heavy fighter craft. They broke out from the nearby barrier nebula and opened fire on Belfast's defence turrets, disabling them. While the battle between the Bretonia Police and the Molly fighters raged outside, the Molly undercover agents onboard Belfast moved quickly. Pulling concealed weapons free they turned on their management, slaughtering them and throwing their bodies out of the airlocks. With limited help, the Bretonia police had been driven back.

Several more attempts were made at retaking the station. Shortly after the hostile takeover, the Bretonians attempted to retrieve their lost station, but the Mollys fought hard to keep it. Along with several newly constructed weapon platforms and heavy fighter cover, they drove back the Bretonian forces. The police then called the Armed Forces to try and fight off the remaining Mollys. But, it wasn't enough.

After the loss of their second destroyer and the complete destruction of the Battleship Leicester with all hands lost, the Armed Forces finally admitted defeat. They positioned the Battleship Ark Royal to patrol the perimeter around Belfast. The Mollys may have taken the station, but they have had little success in creating a supply line to it.

The Newcastle Defensive

After an overwhelming offensive staged by the Gallic Royal Navy on Planet Harris, the last remaining foothold of the Bretonian fleet there was forced to conceed the Tau 31 system and fall back to Leeds. The Battleship Macduff and her attachment were then reassigned to fortify Newcastle. The Tau 31 jump hole in the galloway ice cloud by this point was common knowledge to both sides and thus the MacDuff was stationed in orbit of Planet Carlisle pre-emptively.
