The Vereinigte Widerstandsarmee, also known as the Widerstand or the VWA, is a paramilitary of the Bundschuh created to unite the various factions that emerged after the fall of the Volksfront. It has among its ranks many former commanding officers of the Volksfront and the Rheinlandische Volksfreiheitspartei and has quickly become the dominant force within the Bundschuh.
What is the Vereinigte Widerstandsarmee?
The Vereinigte Widerstandsarmee are a paramilitary organisation within the Bundschuh movement. The Bundschuh are a very old outlawed political party in Rheinland and have in their many years become less and less united, especially since the fall of the Volksfront. Divided into many 'sects' the Bundschuh lacked unity and leadership as the various groups were busier with each other than with the government of Rheinland. None of those groups were stable enough to unite the party's forces.
Some of those who had fought bravely under the banner of the Volksfront watched with pain in their hearts as everything they had worked so hard for fell apart. Something had to be done: something was. A message was broadcast to all Bundschuh members by Professor Augusta "Audino" Adler warning that the Bundschuh had grown weak. Responses were sent by a variety of people: former Volksfront officers; members of the small emergent groups; and Bundschuh members who had not fought before, but felt they had to stand up in these dark days. They all came together and agreed to build something new. Something that would last. Something which could bring the Bundschuh back together.
So, the ex-Volksfront officers took up the mantle to form an organised group once more. Rheinland military defectors, Bundschuh and other underground politicians, activists, members of the Rheinlandische Volksfreiheitspartei and Volksfront remnants joined together to form the VWA – Vereinigte Widerstandsarmee.
A united force that easily outnumbered the other sects, the Widerstand became the most influential group in the Bundschuh under the leadership of its founding Oberst, Michael Wolf, and his successor eventually led the Widerstand to accomplish its goal. Oberst Erich Klugmann succeeded in getting enough support in the party so that finally a party leader could be elected again. Klugmann won the elections with ease but refused the honor and appointed Albrecht Noth in his stead.
The Widerstand poses a real threat to the Federal Republic of Rheinland's assets, its non-violent activism leaving just as deadly a blow as when the motley assortment of dissidents chooses to act through force. But most importantly perhaps, they are capable of uniting the Bundschuh both among the Widerstand's own ranks and among the sects that support them.
Hierarchy
The VWA is organised in a unique manner. There are only few ranks and key decisions are usually decided upon by means of a vote among its members. This is usually done after the issue has first been discussed among various members and commanding officers. This ensures that the course of the Widerstand is supported by its members which in turn guarantees unity in the movement and motivated forces.
While internal democracy is essential to the political course of the movement, ranks are still relevant for day-to-day situations and the military decision-making of the Widerstand. Members are expected to obey their superiors in order to operate as efficiently as possible in their guerilla war against Rheinland.
Ranks
Vorsitzende - The party leader of the Bundschuh. He or she has been elected to to guide the entirety of the party and not just a single sect. Now that the VWA has become dominant within the party the Vorsitzende is usually one of their members or a non-militant party-member who supports them. Although technically above the Oberst, the Vorsitzende is mostly busy with politics and usually leaves the Oberst in command of his forces.
Oberst - The VWA's leading figure. While his/her directions can technically be circumvented by a general vote of no confidence, this is highly uncommon. After all, the Oberst's role is meritocratic and no-one unfit for the job would have been able to reach the rank in the first place.
Kommandant - Valued, elite members of the VWA who have proven time and again that they are capable of leading their fellows in operations. The Oberst may defer command of a group of Aktivists to a Kommandant as he sees fit.
Aktivist - The composing members of the VWA, their often-unsung actions make them just as important as their leaders, if not even more so. While the title "Aktivist" may not be one that confers skill in battle, most VWA agents are more than a match for a squadron of tertiary fighters.

Guidelines
What passes as Widerstand Piracy is rarely ruthless or even demanding; simply a notification that donations would be appreciated and often naming a list of reasons why said donation would benefit both the Widerstand and the donating ship in question. The so-called "Klugmann Method" of piracy has held surprisingly effective results.
The Widerstand's piracy prioritizes Corporations over individual or freelance transports and companies. Certain commodities that are morally questionable (Cardamine, Slaves, etc.) or a direct threat to the movement (Munitions, Military Vehicles) will often be targeted for retrieval and destruction/repatriation, depending on the good.
It is uncommon (but not unheard of) for Widerstand ships to initiate an attack for any reason, but certain things often raise its ire more than others. Attacks on allied and friendly entities are never tolerated and usually result in a small wing of motley activists emerging from a nebula or asteroid field, cannons blazing.
The Widerstand's relationship with its nemesis the Federal Government is complex; most activists understand that their foes in law enforcement are not the true enemy and as such have a diminished sense of anger/hatred towards them. Many such encounters end peacefully, others far less so, depending on the pilots involved on either side.
The Widerstand extends no such privilege to non-governmental foes that hamper its efforts more than others; Bounty Hunters, Corsairs, and the Slomon K'hara can expect to be treated as targets of priority.
Zone of influence
Primary: Where the brunt of Widerstand operations take place.
Northern and Eastern Rheinland (Frankfurt, Munich, New Berlin, Hamburg, Bremen, Luneburg), Sigma-13, Dresden
Secondary: The Widerstand will occasionally fly operations into these regions, but with less frequency than the above.
Southern and Western Rheinland (Stuttgart, Koeln, Saar), New Hampshire, Bering, Hudson
Tertiary: The Widerstand is very capable of operating within these systems for various reasons, but prefers to leave them be for the most part.
Smuggling and Diplomatic Operations are commonly flown into systems held by Liberty, Kusari and Bretonia; there are even reports of ships flying Bundschuh Green in the Omicrons. These occasions are obviously few and far between.
Weapons
Standard issue for the Widerstand are the Bundschuh's own Luger-class Tachyon Cannon.
Bruchsal's engineers are capable of working other weapons onto Widerstand ships, including Civilian, LWB, Hessian, Coalition, and even Order weaponry.
