A lot of these system pages are outdated, Space's nav map may be better. |
Cortez is one of the two independant worlds connecting Liberty and Bretonia via California to Manchester. Like Magellan it exists semi within The Barrier Nebula which conceals the tradelane heading towards the Manchester Jump Gate. The Trade Lane and Jump Gate to California is concealed by an independant ice cloud known as the Paloma Ice Cloud to the east end of the system. Cortez has been known as neutral grounds for all four houses to undergo political debates and formalities for hundreds of years due to the neutral-lawful nature of it's only Planet Curacao. Being run and owned by Orbital Spa & Cruise it brings alot of attention to the system with transports bringing tourists by the millions to it's shores each year.
However a significant presence of Liberty Rogues has been noticed over the years suggesting that they may have an establishment in one of the fields in Cortez. Lane Hackers have also been spotted on numerous occasions which is expected as a base of operations in Magellan is considered highly possible.
Both Liberty and Bretonia have a minor influence in the system owning a trade lane and jump gate on each end. But patrols of Navy and Armed Forces vessels are rarely sent out.
Since the fall of Freeport 4 in 824 AS is Cortez now the last physical link between Bretonia and Liberty. The Gallic Royal Navy wants to seperate the allies in hope that Bretonia will not stay anylonger if there would not be any supplies from Liberty anymore. So Cortez has become the most important and bloodiest system of the Gallic Sirian War.
