Bombers are designed to rapidly destroy large vessels, such as Transports and Capital Ships. Towards this objective, every bomber-class vessel is able to mount up to two Bomber Torpedoes. Light bombers share the Torpedo hard-points with their Cruise Disruptors, and will have to choose between mount 1 or 2 of each type, while the heavy bombers have dedicated Cruise Diruptor hard-points and can thefore mount 2 Torpedoes and 1 Disruptor at the same time.

Bombers also have their own Class 6 Guns and Class 3 Turrets, which are quite different from the equivalent weapons used by Fighters, in that they are designed to inflict large amounts of damage on slow-moving vessels instead of making many small hits on rapid-moving small ships. However, some bomber pilots are able to succesfully use some of the small and agile bombers against other fighter ships quite successfully.

All Bombers can equip Class 10 Heavy Fighter Shields, while Heavy Bombers can mount Freighter Shields.

Heavy Bombers

Heavy Bombers are heavily armed and armored, but move very slowly. All of these ships except for the Waran can equip 2 Bomber Torpedoes and 1 Cruise Disruptor simultaneously, allowing them to stop a target and use a mix of Nova and SNAC torpedoes to destroy it. Furthermore, all of these ships can equip Freighter Shields for extra protection. However, all of them turn very slowly, and they are somewhat limited on Guns and Turrets, which makes them very susceptible to attack from Heavy Fighters and Very Heavy Fighters.
