Legacy is a Exploratory Mining group that explores not only house space for uncharted mining areas but also the fringes of space.
History
As soon as the colonist arrived in Sirius, it was critical for them to find areas where they could extract resources so that they could produce the materials needed for their house to grow. Legacy Exploration Corporation was first established in Rheinland in 4A.S., , Liberty in 7A.S., Kusari in 8A.S. and finally in Bretonia in 19A.S.
As soon as tensions rose between the houses, Legacy declared itself "friendly to every house, but neutral for all relations regarding conflict." Being similar to a Mercenary type group, the houses had no real reason to take up hostilities with the group despite being founded in New Berlin. By 20A.S., Legacy got its current day name- the decision for the choice was because they now operated in 4 houses, two of which spoke English.
By the first centennial Legacy was responsible for plotting and planning most of the expansion within the four houses. However, by 120A.S. the governments of Kusari and Bretonia placed heavy restrictions to limit Legacy's power within their space. CEO Abelerd Eberstark announced the goals of the company with the following statement;
With the following address Eberstark mandated that the company adopt the slogan, "For the future of Sirius." This universal slogan promoted the neutrality of the company until the 80-years War in 589A.S. By now Kusari severed its contract with Legacy because they feared mainly that Rheinland Empire would somehow manipulate the company- thus putting Kusari at a dramatic disadvantage. Though the opposite was true, stock for the company dropped following the news. To combat the new loss of revenue, Stein Engel initiated the company into a process he called "privatization." The goal of the project was address the fact that Governments might follow suit and so to preserve the company they would have to market themselves to private firms like Kruger, BMM and DSE.
Alike the governments that proceeded them, companies also questioned the motive of the company and whether or not the work being conducted was biased. For several hundred years the company over and over promoted that it is neutral. By 700A.S. companies were sick and tired of hearing the same argument. The position of CEO had been dominated by Rheinlanders throughout their history. To combat this the company elected a new leader, one who was from Liberty. Howard Gregory was the first non-Rheinlander to obtain the position of CEO within the group. He again for saw the need to open up the company so that they could combat the loss of companies who had become suspicious. Gregory announced that the company would now work for anyone in Sirius regardless of affiliation so long as they were lawful.
The company faced a brief period of prosperity and was able to update most of its fleet. By 800A.S. most of Sirius had been colonized and the company was forced to consolidate its fleet along with radically examining its new goals within Sirius. In 813A.S., Edsel Kuhn was elected to CEO. Despite being of Rheinland decent, Kuhn had spent most of his early life as a mechanic under Republican, and then chose to study abroad. Because of the many years spent around Sirius, attending universities in every house, Kuhn was able to speak English, Japanese, German and even some Spanish. Furthermore he had close relationships with large companies in ever house including Samura and DSE. Upon studying Legacy's past he came up with a viable solution to end the companies now accumulating debt. Along with exploration, the company would heavily focus on the exploration of various mining areas, keeping a catalog of them and then issuing the areas to companies within their influence. He also enacted that the company publish its findings in a journal so that everyone would be able to see the fairness and non-biased nature of the company.
By 818A.S. it became terribly clear that the company would soon become bankrupt. Edsel Kuhn spent the time recalculating incomes and maintenance. It was estimated that by 820A.S., Legacy Exploration would be over 10Billion Credits in debt. Kuhn then organized a radical diversification of the company. Since companies no longer needed surveying, as they had access to it on their own, it seemed that the business model developed in the beginning was now becoming a pitfall. Kuhn ordered the majority of the higher class vessels to be turned into vessels capable of mining. While smaller vessels were scratched to provide parts and additional scanning equipment for newer models being introduced. The Legacy Paraguay was introduced during this period and immediately ordered to the outer Tau regions so that mining locations could be negotiated. During this time Kuhn had taken the Bolivia to Gran Canaria and established good relations with the Zoners there. He then ordered that the rest of the fleet be removed from house space.
With the removal of their ships from house space, Kuhn adapted another division of the company, Cargoworks. This fleet consisted of the larger class vessels that were used during surveying, however in due time they would be scrapped for ships provided by a Legacy-Zoner contract. The Panama however, would remain largely unchanged. It would be repositioned to Gran Canaria for fast access to the Taus. On Gran Canaria, Legacy built a massive shipyard on the outskirts of various Zoner settlements. Named Amazon Basin Shipworks, it became the largest Legacy ship hub in the galaxy.
Special Ships
Legacy Bolivia
The Legacy Bolivia is currently the flagship of the entire Fleet. CEO Edsel Kuhn is currently occupying a room on the vessel as it surveys the deep space surrounding the Cambridge System. Today, it is the most technologically developed ships in the entire fleet utilizing new pulse engines, powerful scanning equipment and computer systems. It is primarily operated within Bretonian and Liberty Space.
Legacy Belize
The Legacy Belize is the main operating ship within Rheinland and continues to work to obtain about the ever changing space surrounding the territory. In recent years it has made strides around Dresden, but has recently been repositioned to Zone O11 to map out various mining zones there.
Legacy Panama
The Legacy Panama is the only Gunboat Class ship within the fleet. It is assigned to the more dangerous surveying missions as it holds up better to pirates and such. After the destruction of the Legacy Guatemala in 815A.S. allegedly by Blood Dragons, Legacy Explorations commissioned this ship to be built. Today it is performing surveys of the Hokkaido System for Kusari.
