Description
Cerberus is the codename for a black ops organization that was part of the Order before going rogue. Cerberus has since evolved into a human-survivalist paramilitary group led by a well known Bretonian, many know him just as The Colonel, few know him as Jack Aubrey. Cerberus' core belief is that humanity is under costant threat from possible alien species and that the Order is to hamstrung by law and public opinion to truly act against these dangerous foes. For Cerberus, any method of advancing humanities ascension are justified, including illegal or dangerous experimentation, terrorist activities, sabotage and assassination. Cerberus operatives accept that these methods are brutal, but they know that if they want to save humanity they are forced to use these methods. Cerberus has many operatives planted throughout Sirius, which includes House space, who regularly report back to Jack Aubrey. Due to the very large network of contacts, they effectively have access to most systems, major trade stops, and colonies in Sirius. However, Cerberus has no knowledge of the political climate in Gallia, thus rendering Cerberus blind in the Gallia systems. Cerberus is very well-funded with several unnamed suppliers and contributors within the Bretonian military-industrial complex contributing credits and resources to Cerberus, and probably even ExoGeni, trusting Jack Aubrey will make the right decisions. Cerberus also owns several front corporations which further fund and support their operations. Classified financial records indicate that Cerberus has a reliable income stream of several billion credits per year. Communication throughout Cerberus sometimes takes the form of steganographic messages embedded within extranet broadcasts. These messages can range from ship movement orders or instructions to financiers to direct funds to their main cell. Unfortunately this method of communication was recently compromised by the Liberty Security Force. Cerberus has obtained quantum-entanglement communicators with one such device already installed onboard the Terminus to give Aubrey a more secure, direct means of communication with the many Cerberus operatives across Sirius. Cerberus is known to only recruit highly skilled Order pilots to maintain their elite force, their bomber wing, also called the Shock Wing, is a force to be reckoned with.
Shift of Leadership
Known throughout the Omicrons Cerberus was founded by Jack Aubrey, the organization performed great under his leadership and became a wealthy one. After a while the leadership was passed on to his trusted friend, Dave Synk, also known as The Doctor or just "Doc". Yet again, the organization flourished and nomad key points were disabled, assassinations were carried out, bombs were planted and research was done.
After a long lasting reign of power Dave Synk handed the leadership to his Colonel, Joe Daniels. The reasons for the constant shift of leadership are classified and are unknown to the people who shouldn't know. Rumors have it that The Colonel is retired, which is unthinkable. Others say that The Doctor fled for his life for reasons unknown. No one knows the truth expect one man, the current leader of Cerberus, the black ops organization that terrorizes the Nomad Worlds, Joe Daniels.
Notable Operations
Operation BLACKOUT
Operation BLACKOUT, also called Harbinger of Darkness, was the name given to the Cerberus project involving the launch of a HEPW (High Energy Pulse Warhead) over the corsair settlement of New Andalucia, on Planet Crete. The warhead was developed at Outpost X-58, a secret Cerberus research complex somewhere in the Border Worlds. The overall operation was a complete success, the pulse discharge over the settlement caused a general blackout in an area wide up to four hundred miles.
Despite the theories of the Cerberus scientists, regarding the lack of letal power, the electrical discharge killed twenty people, and wounding even more with the shockwave.
The involvement of the notorious researcher Dave Synk in this project is certain.
The local population was not aware of the ruse de guerre of Cerberus, using the notorious tactic known as 'flag change'. The warhead was launched from an automated transport, bearing the identification beacon of the Hogosha. Cerberus involvement in the operation was contested, and due to the lack of proof, the Council of Elders declared that they were searching for a shadow, thus closing the case.
Some survivors offered a reward to those who could manage to find the real executors behind the operation. But shortly after their announcement on the Neural Net, they disappeared, probably assassinated or rapt by Cerberus.
When the corsair known as Ezio della Francesca managed to get hold of a Cerberus agent, which he supposed that he took part in the operation, the corsair agent sent the Cerberus captive to Planet Crete, in order to be processed and probably executed.
The transport on which the Cerberus agent was held captive never arrived on Planet Crete. The wreck was later found in Sigma-19, and the Corsair Council thought that the GMG were involved aswell. After this event, Cerberus became the main suspect for the HEPW discharge over New Andalucia.
Curiosity
The metal casing of the warhead was later found at 32 miles away from the epicentrum of the blast point, the word BLACKOUT was still visible, despite the crash and the overall damage to the case.
The Yukamoto, the Hogosha transport that Cerberus secretly used was never found.
Operation PANDORUM
Operation PANDORUM, also called Black Death, is an infamous operation of Cerberus, involving a biological warhead developed at Outpost X-36, on Planet Pecos. The warhead was carrying the disease known as PANDORUM, or disease PX-36.
Exposure to the lethal gas provoked instant death, often bypassing gas mask filters. The typical red clouds of the PANDORUM gas became a living nightmare for the Liberty Navy infantry training center over at Planet Wrangell.
The project was developed by the infamous Rheinland Military scientist, Frederich von Staal.
Operation OMEGA NINE
Operation OMEGA NINE, also called The Scrap Hunt by the agents involved in the operation, was the name given to the operation involving the retrieval of any kind of sensible data regarding the Dallas Research Station, the station known to be involved in the infamous Texas Incident. Despite their efforts, nothing worth of note was found, and the mission was a failure.
Operation TYPHOON
Operation TYPHOON also called Clean Sweep was a major move made by Cerberus, which involved identification of alien presence in the Bretonian system of Chester, neutralization of possible alien threats and retrievel of critical data regarding the K'Haras. The operation was led by the current leader of Cerberus Dave Synk. The operatives moved in Chester after detecting some unusual gravitron readings and a very unique radio frequency. The main fighter wing was dispatched and the operatives headed to the Bretonia sector using a highly sophisticated stealth system called EMMD because of it's principle based on electro-magnetic manipulation. The agents discovered a Nomad Lair that was trying to rebuild itself. Slomon K'Hara presence was iminent. Eventually the group managed to bring down and deactivate the Nomad base offering a very unique artifact that eventually was studied by Dave Synk, and unlocked new ways to manipulate the quantum particles, thus leading to the creation of some highly sophisticated weapons.
Zone of Operation
Due to their activities, Cerberus is known to operate Sirius wide. Cerberus was seen operating from New York to the desolate system of Chester, sometimes even entering the Upper Omicrons after The Phantoms. Their hostility to The Phantoms derives from the bombardment on Planet Cambridge, where millions of countless innocent lives were lost. An interesting fact about the personnel of Cerberus is that the main part of them are bretonians, including their shadowy leader, Jack Aubrey.
Influence
Their main zone of operation is known to be the Edge Nebula, and the eastern part of the Walker Nebula. Their main zone of influence is undoubtely in Omicron 100 and Omicron Mu. A recent rumor said that Cerberus placed a notable garrison on Mora Station, after that their lead scientist managed to find an anomaly in the jumphole leading to Omicron 92. Various Order agents said something about secret laboratories in the lower levels of the base, but misteriously they went disappearing.
The rumor that Cerberus eliminated the main witnesses is a credited fact, even if no proof about their actions exist. Jack Aubrey denied Cerberus involvement in the disappearance of the Order agents.
Organization
Cerberus is divided into numerous cells, also called sections, which have no knowledge of their counterparts. This ensures that should one cell be compromised, the others would not be compromised. Each cell is led by an operative who reports directly to Col. Aubrey. Cerberus is made up of many sections or wings, the shock wing, the support wing, the research division and the main wing, but the most famous cell is the elite wing of Cerberus.
As of 818, Cerberus consists of 450 operatives organized into five cells. Jack Aubrey oversees all projects carried out by the cells personally and consequently, there are can be upwards of a dozen projects active at one time.
The Main Wings
The general list about the main wings and divisions of Cerberus.
While the goal of Support Wing is to fend-off any kind of threat to the shock wing's bombers, the assault wing's goal is to defend the main warships of Cerberus against enemy bombers. They usually concentrate all on a target and take it out in a matter of seconds. All the fighters of the Assault Wing are based on the Cerberus|HQ-Legion |
All the bombers of the Shock Wing are based on the Cerberus|AV-Solar.Flare |
The punitive squadron is the active capital ship fleet of Cerberus. The squadron is acting only on high risk missions and during possible encounters with enemy capital ships is highly probable. The squadron is also formed by the top ranking members who have access to the most devastating weaponry across Sirius. The Cerberus|HQ-Legion is in charge of coordinating all the other warships. |
The E7, or Section 7 is a highly trained group of pilots, mainly the elite of Cerberus. Little is known about this section. All the E7 members are based on the Cerberus|HQ-Legion |
The research wing is lead by the well known xenoarcheologist and quantum physicyst, David Synk, the job of this section is research. All forms of research from new weapons, new shields, new armors, space anomalies or other related research are the domain of this section. All the Research Wing members are based on the Cerberus|RV-Fading.Sun |
Founding
Cerberus was founded by a an ex-Bretonian Armed Forces officer, Col. Jack Aubrey in close collaboration with a rogue Deep Space Engineering researcher named Dave Synk. Jack Aubrey left the Armed Forces during the attack on Cambridge at the hands of the Phantoms when a MOX warhead was deliberatly dropped on the planet's main settlement, Brighton. Jack in a matter of seconds lost his parents and his friends. He decided to leave Bretonia forever to seek revenge against those who took everything away from him.
He founded Cerberus some months later with the help of an ex-researcher of DSE, Dave Synk, and with the help of two former Order pilots, Elijah Jurgen and Cayle Swanson.
The most famous event that involved Cerberus directly was during the Liberty Navy's punitive assault on the Order. Cerberus fought side by side with their former allies to keep the Navy away from planet Toledo. They managed to survive the Navy's onslaught but they suffered a great loss.
Another event that is memorable enough is of course when the Outcasts invaded Minor with heavy warships after an assault in Omicron Gamma. The Order wasn't there when they were needed, but Cerberus and a former Order cell known as the TCG caught the outcasts in a crossfire and pushed them out from Minor while suffering very little damage.
