Scientists are highly trained individuals, usually in a specialized field of expertise. Their skills are in high demand and despite the often dangerous locations in which scientists may be working, there is rarely a shortage of applicants to the various research installations across Sirius. Due to the classified nature of much of their work, scientists are valuable captives to pirate and terrorist organizations who hope to subvert their expertise for more illicit purposes.
