"ASMFD" Heavy Railgun

An evolution of the lighter ASMD railgun design, the ASMFD (Accelerated Slug Fusion Mass Driver) utilises the higher power output available from bomber-class reactors to full and terrifying effect. Higher temperatures and a more massive nanite payload allow the railgun slug launched from this weapon to reach temperatures in the hundreds of millions of degrees, inducing an uncontrolled fusion reaction in the projectile as it streaks towards its target. The resultant devastation on the target is breathtaking to behold; even capital-class armour plating stands little chance of fully absorbing a superheated slurry of molten metal punching deep into its surface, and the low rate of fire is thoroughly compensated by the pure penetrative power the ASMFD offers its wielder.

The emergence of hybrid railgun technology onto the open market poses a unique challenge to the sector's shield manufacturers, as the superheated metal slug tends to punch through most shield harmonics with enough force to violently destabilise the energy field. Only time will tell if shield technology can evolve to meet this new threat, or if these weapons are set to join the Debilitator series of weaponry as a premier shield-busting option for pilots across the sector.
