The Independent Mining Guild (IMG) is a loose confederation of miners who work those fields that have thus far remained undeveloped by the larger mining companies. Conflict between IMG and BMM in Tau space was one of the primary causes of the war between Bretonia and Kusari known as the First Tau War. The IMG is geographicly split in two larger groups; one in the Omegas based on Freistadt with Rheinic origin and the larger one in the Taus and Bretonian systems based on Java Station.
Synopsis
The Independant Miners Guild is a largely organization which focuses on providing labor and income for it's guild members. Not as profit-oriented as the larger house corporations, the IMG frequently establishes mining operations that other corporations do not deem economically viable. This ranges from small-scale mining, to establishing operations under hostile conditions. Although the IMG has it's roots in Bretonia and Rheinland, it has attracted disgruntled and abandoned workers from all four houses, and is not specifically affiliated with any single house.
History
654AS - The first Independent Miners Guild (IMG) base is established in the Tau-23 system, known as Java Station. Bretonia Mining and Metals(BMM) surveyors somehow missed the system Tau-23 during the great mapping period in 450AS. A couple of Cambridge geology professors on research sabbatical stumbled across it in 654AS. Lacking the practical experience to develop the resources of the system, they persuaded some BMM mining engineers to start a new company, known as the Independent Miners Guild.
702AS - Unemployed Rheinland workers begin joining the Independent Miners Guild, following the collapse of the Rheinland economy after their defeat in the 80 Year War against the GMG.
752AS - The Founders' Day Revolt by miners in the Dublin system occurs; the first major loss is the gunboat "Storm". In the aftermath the Mollies establish themselves as a permanent faction in Dublin. Some disgruntled miners opting against violence leave BMM for IMG.
756AS - The Independent Miners Guild recovers the hulk of Battleship Hood, which was wrecked by a Molly trap, repressurising it and establishing a gold mining operation in an asteroid field in the no mans land between the Mollies and Bretonia Armed Forces. A racing course through the asteroid field is established not soon thereafter.
760AS - The Independent Miners (German: "Knappschaft der unabhängigen Bergleute") on Freistadt join up with the Independant Miners Guild. IMG survey operations discover immense pockets of resources in the Walker nebula clouds. The IMG immediately begins mining and exporting the various minerals found.
802AS - A small group of independent miners started to colonize Pecos in the Coronado system with a few small mining colonies.
805AS - The IMG started the building of its first own shipyard for larger mining ship in Omega-3. The building of Aland Shipyard will be finished in 817 AS.
806AS - The Colonial Remnant arrived in the Taus and created a strong partnership with the IMG. The IMG gifts Tau-44 to the remnants to creat a new home; the Colonial Republic.
813AS - All diplomatic work failed; Bretonia decleared war on the IMG and started the Tau War for the system of Tau-23. Soon Maltese, Molly, Colonial & Kusari military ships are figthing for the Taus. Kusari, CR and IMG on one side and the Nazione Maltese, Bretonia and Mollies on the other side.
816AS - Finishing of Jakarta Orbital Colony; the first orbital city of the IMG and largest station in the Taus.
Since 818AS - The First Tau War ended and the Second Tau War has started by a few Council ships breaking the isolation of the Gallic Kingdom. They entered the Orkney system. Later a huge fleet of Gallic Royal Navy ships have entered Sirius and killed everything in its way. After a few weeks the IMG capitulate - like the KNF, while the Colonial Military were destroyed by the GRN. But the IMG was not punished by the Royal Navy - IMG was allowed to enter (a few) Gallic system as Sirian traders first times. While that time IMG helped the Anti Gallic Royal Alliance (except the Maltese) by giving them information and warning them. The IMG helped Colonials and Councile refugees by giving them both a new secret home; protected from the Royal Navy. But this double game caused also trouble for the IMG. In 825 the IMG stations Java & Holman were partly sizied by the GRN to take care that these stations are not used by the enemies of the King anymore. After the fall of Leeds the Liberty Navy sized Freeport 4 to have a stronghold in the Magellan system. When in 824 the Battleship Betheny attacks Magellan the Freeport was destoryied by the GRN.
