History
The Gaian Guard started out as a direct successor the Watchers. it is still a rather young group, officialy formed in the middle of 822 AS, and it's contacts with allied and friendly groups has been limited so far. The group recedes from it's old ways of increasing spiritualism into the water of pure scientific duty, just as their ancestors who first carved out the initial tunnels of Islay. The Guard relies heavily on small scale operations, sabotage and precison strikes, although the crushing lack of manpower often limits them to only the first of mentioned tactics. They are nowhere close to giving up, however, and keep lurking in and around Bretonia, awaiting the perfect occasion to strenghten themselves and finally become an influential player o the field.
With terribly limited numbers, the Guard is doing it's best to put every single mind, soul and hand at their disposal to a good use. Finding themselves ironically well funded, they have expanded their work on what they can do best - research. With the entirety of their group being a talented research cadre, the Guard is making all the necessary preparations to begin a large scale investigation of any and all possible pieces of alien technology that lurk in the vast amounts of artifacts coming in and out of their bases.
The main targets of their attacks remain the same - BMM, Planetform and OS&C. Realising that the corporations don't care about employees but money, their main goal is to deal as many financial losses as possible. But unlike the Watchers, the Guard is aware of the events that took place in orbit and on the surface of planet Toledo. That in turn resulted in a radical shift of their stance towards Nomads and Wild, from neutrality to open season.
What really makes the Guard stand out, however, is that they are first Gaians to introduce a simple but effective three-rank hierarchy. Fresh members start with Initiate rank and after a short trial period and proving themselves during a combat or diplomatic mission they are promoted to Guardian rank. Guardians form the bulk of the organisation, carrying out "day-to-day" tasks and serving as their main combat force. The most prominent Guardians are offered a chance to pass an unspecified ritual that will allow them to join the inner circle of commanders.
