With the introduction of DSCore (25th Febuary 2019) (Discovery Freelancer Version 4.91 Patch 5), Ship Equipment statistic pages and Ship Equipment pages will not be updated anymore. Or not regularly atleast. They will be kept for historical reasons. DSCore will give you the most up-to-date info you can get about almost everything you need to know about Equipment and Ship statistics.

Missiles

Missile Launcher

Fighter Missiles are self-propelled, explosive projectile weapon. Since these weapons use gun hard-points, they are typically only mounted on Fighters and Freighters with the appropriate hard-point (they can also be mounted on capital ship forward gun hard points of the same class, but that is not a common setup).

Missiles explode when they hit an object, or when they reach the end of their life. Explosion damage does Direct damage to everything within the explosion radius. This includes any unshielded equipment, such as the target's guns and support equipment, but also includes the attacker if he gets too close. Missiles can also be detonated by Cruise Disruptors and other missiles, and can be led off-target by Countermeasures, pushed off-target by Battleship Flak Turrets, and can also be evaded with defensive maneuvers.

Fighter Missiles are physical weapons and require ammunition to be purchased. A ship can hold up to 70 rounds of ammunition.

Missiles are faster than Torpedoes but do far less damage.

Torpedoes

Torpedo Launcher

Torpedoes are self-propelled projectile weapon, similar to Missiles, but with a much larger payload.

Torpedoes use specialized hard-points, and as such they can only be equipped on ships that are designed to support them. Typically this limits their use to Bombers and large Fighters with dual-purpose cruise disruptor hard-points, although some of the smaller fighters can also use them.

Bomber Torpedoes are much more powerful than Fighter Torpedoes, however they also consume more energy, are more expensive, and are less agile in flight. All of the Torpedoes are heavier and slower than Missiles.

Torpedoes explode when they hit an object, or when they reach the end of their life. Explosion damage does Direct damage to everything within the explosion radius. This includes any unshielded equipment, such as the target's guns and support equipment. NOTE: energy-based torpedoes do not yield explosive damage, and therefore only damage the object they hit--for example, sometimes a Supernova torpedo will hit a gun instead of the target's hull, destroying the gun but doing no damage to the ship itself.

Torpedoes can also be detonated by Cruise Disruptors and other missiles, and can be led off-target by Countermeasures, pushed off-target by Battleship Flak Turrets, and can also be evaded with defensive maneuvers.

Some torpedoes are energy-based projectiles, and require significant amounts of power from the ship's main power plant to fire. Some are physical-form weapons that require ammunition, which is limited to 70 rounds on the Discovery 24/7 RP Server.


Fighter Torpedoes (Class 1 Guns)

Fighter Torpedoes use a Class-1 Torpedo hard-point, and can sometimes share a Cruise Disruptor hard-point. Almost all of the Very Heavy Fighters and Super Heavy Fighters are able to support Fighter Torpedoes in one or both of these configurations. Some of the smaller fighters also have hard-points that support these weapons, but most of them do not.

Bomber Torpedoes

Bomber Torpedoes use a Class-1 Gun hard-point, and can sometimes share a Cruise Disruptor hard-point. All bombers can mount two bomber torpedoes by using a mix of these configurations--heavy bombers can mount two torpedoes and keep their Cruise Disruptor. Note: The "Supernova" Antimatter Cannon has largely been replaced by the Civilian Antimatter Cannon, and is no longer widely available.
