Selection Intl. "ASMD-R" Light Railgun
The ASMD-R (Accelerated Slug Mass Driver - Repeater) is Selection International's latest answer to the proliferation of light strike craft: accuracy by volume. Outwardly unchanged from their flagship "ASMD" design, the Repeater utilizes experimental cooling technology combined with a smaller nanite load allowing for a higher sustained rate of fire. While the resulting slug is notably less powerful than those produced by the "ASMD", the ability to sustain several follow-up shots massively increases hit potential on smaller targets, and as such the Repeater variant is marketed as an anti-strikecraft solution first and foremost.
The emergence of hybrid railgun technology onto the open market poses a unique challenge to the sector's shield manufacturers, as the superheated metal slug tends to punch through most shield harmonics with enough force to violently destabilise the energy field. Only time will tell if shield technology can evolve to meet this new threat, or if these weapons are set to join the Debilitator series of weaponry as a premier shield-busting option for pilots across the sector.
