New London Offensive: 825 A.S.
With Leeds now firmly under control of the Crown and Liberty's forces pushed back to Cortez and Magellan, Gallia's struggle with overextension has forced them to make a difficult decision. Seven years of war and a burgeoning front line far from home have left their military leaders with only two options: entrench themselves in Edinburgh and Leeds and cease their offensives, leaving the Sirian betrayers with time to lick their wounds, or a final concerted push into New London to bring the Bretonians to their knees once and for all. Opting for the latter approach, Gallia has discovered a new flank from which to assault the Bretonian capital. The single largest fleet of warships in human history has made a double pronged push into New London, ravaging the system from the Newcastle Gate to Southampton in what has been dubbed the New London blitz, encircling the capital world itself. The remnants of Bretonia's battered fleet have formed a battle line around their homeworld spearheaded by the Suffolk, Essex, and the prototype Carrier Warwick. With retreat not an option, the Bretonians are determined to make Gallia bleed for every inch.
Areas of Interest
Asteroid Fields
Cornwall Asteroid Field
>>>WARNING: NAVIGATIONAL HAZARD<<<<
A mined-out asteroid field. The Trade Lane connecting New London with the Cambridge Jump Gate was carefully surveyed prior to construction to ensure that it did not intersect any pockets of explosive gas remaining in the field.
Cumbria Asteroid Field
>>>WARNING: NAVIGATIONAL HAZARD<<<<
The mining of the Cumbria field released large quantities of explosive gas trapped inside the asteroids, resulting in a number of fatalities over the centuries. The field no longer possesses any resources of note, but the explosive gas has since settled into a large pocket within a gravitational dead zone. Despite this, the proximity of Cumbria to New London has made it a favorite launching point for attacks by the vicious terrorist group known as the Mollys, and the Battleship Suffolk was recently assigned to patrol the perimeter of the field.
Devon Asteroid Field
>>>WARNING: NAVIGATIONAL HAZARD<<<<
A large asteroid field exhausted of all useful resources. Care should be taken, however, as the mining process created at least one large pocket of explosive gas within the field. Devon is frequently used as cover for Gaian attacks on the nearby Canterbury Station, where Planetform, Inc. is headquartered.
Somerset Asteroid Field
>>>WARNING: NAVIGATIONAL HAZARD<<<<
One of the smaller asteroid fields in the system, mining of Somerset began soon after other asteroid fields in the system were depleted of resources; however, the large quantities of explosive gas within the Somerset asteroids quickly made any further mining impossible and the area was abandoned.
Debris Fields
Southampton Debris Field
>>>WARNING: NAVIGATIONAL HAZARD<<<<
The Southampton Debris Field is a monument to government expediency, the product of centuries of ship construction without any form of government environmental oversight in an effort to expand the Bretonian space fleet as quickly as possible. The resulting eyesore, an ocean of scrap, is as emblematic of Bretonia as the Southampton Shipyard itself. No serious attempt to clear the field was ever made, and eventually a large population of Junkers took up residence -- despite the presence of dangerously radioactive areas around leaking engine cores.
Others
Throughout the war against Kusari and later Gallia. Southampton Shipyard was always a vital manufacturing and production center of the Bretonia Armed Forces. That same military significance made it the fulcrum of Gallia's first forays into the New London system, and the reason for the subsequent of the York and her Battlegroup in the Station's vicinity.
A colossal structure, it was the birthplace of the Bretonian fleet. Its yards were organized around an enormous structure know by Southampton's worker and the Bretonian Armed Forces as "The Bridge". It was an objekt of pride fro Bretonia, a symbol of the brilliance, dedication and ingenuity of the people and the main hub for logistic operations through over a decade of continual warfare.
As the beating heart of the Bretonian war effort, it was the inevitable target of the Gallic Royal Navy. With the lessons learned from Glasgow, LD-14 and Stokes, the Armed Forces took steps ensure that the Station, only a stone's throw away from New London, would not fall into the enemy's hands. As the "Blitz" arrived, the commanding Officer of Battleship York issued both the evacuation and demolition order of the Shipyard. Several key structures of Southampton - including The Bridge - were destroyed through controlled nuclear meltdowns of the Station's several Reactors, compromising any effort to repair in a timetable that could be of immediate use to the Gallic Forces
