Synopsis
The Independent Mining Guild (IMG) is a loose confederation of miners who work those fields that have thus far remained undeveloped by the larger mining companies.
With the Houses pushing into the Borderworlds, conflict between House Mining Corporations and the IMG was also sparked in the Omegas. The Gallic invasion of the Taus ended the IMG - BMM conflict that had been a primary cause for the war between Kusari and Bretonia, but places the IMG - who surrendered to Gallia without a fight - in a difficult position in the occupied Taus.
History
Seeking to follow their profession freely, the Independent Miners Guild was founded by Bretonian laborers who stumbled upon vast resources in the Tau 23 system. Being a small group of workers, without the backing of large corporate funding, they managed to keep their independence and even grew constantly as disappointed, unemployed or even abused laborers of the Bretonian and Rheinland corporations joined the Miners Guild for decades and centuries. Due to the economic crisis after the 80-Years-War, as well as the Founders Day revolution in Dublin, masses of unemployed workers from Rheinland joined the IMG.
Objectives and Characteristics
The Independent Miners Guild focuses heavily on providing honest labor for all it's members. The conditions under which work is done aren't always optimal, however, every member is guaranteed to be entitled to the true value of his or her work done, rather then the tithe that the corporations offer their workers. This has two benefits: The Guild members, receiving a greater share of the profits of their labor, can more easily invest in security and escort - as a result, you will often find Bounty Hunters patrolling our base perimiters. It also allows guild members to attract escort pilots directly - resulting in the formation of our defense wing, and the development of our own defense craft.
The IMG openly denounces the exploitation of Bretonian and Rheinland laborers as it always did. However, being independent is the most important characteristic of the Guild. For that reason it does not participate in local politics. The IMG is deeply troubled by the ongoing war between Kusari and Bretonia. With its assets split across the front lines the IMG is currently pursuing a peace settlement between the great Houses.
In present time the IMG continues to focus on providing labor for all it's members. Being not as profit-focused as the house corporations, the Guild will often invest in developing mining sites that the larger house corporations deem economically unfeasable, or too dangerous. As a result, IMG is often at the edge of known space, and pushing that edge back. The conflicts in the Tau systems and Leeds, as well as those between Rheinland and Liberty, have caused a lot of the local workforces there to become displaced. Some have sought refuge within the IMG, most notably in the Aland facility.
The IMG, because of retaining it's independent status while the other mining corporations are closely affiliated in a House, finds it hard to compete in civilized space. For this reason IMG has staked a large investment in its outposts in the Border Worlds and in Deep Space Exploration, attempting to find and exploit natural resources. Because they operate so far from civilized space in systems infested with Corsairs and Outcasts the IMG has built up a sizable defense arm to protect its assets, and continues to develop and refine it's ship designs.
Organisation
The Independent Miners Guild has a long tradition on treating it's employees with outmost respect and fairness. Therefore it is devided to only 3 ranks which still ensure high effiency. These are:
- Guild Masters
- Employees
- Recruits
The Guild Masters have the authority to administer the Independent Miners Guild. All of them compose the Board of Guild Masters, the highest body in IMG. Meetings of the Board are not very often and usually happen on major issues regarding IMG. Of course there is a first among the Guild Masters, however his/her powers are much more limited than that of a corporate president.
The Guild Members are the absolute majority of the IMG personnel. They have the same rights each one of them regardless of their exact position. IMG has also the responsibility to support them from outsiders (ie. in a House court of law or if they are captured by pirates). Some examples of these positions can be the technicians, the escorts, the crew in spaceships, the bartenders, the doctors, etc. Note that IMG has also a big populace of whole families which even though some of their family members may not work for IMG (ie. the kids), they are still considered part of this "rank".
It should be specified that skilled employees who have showed zeal in their work, can become Coordinators. These are the directors of all IMG personnel in a specific sector. However, Coordinators despite their special rank, are still employees.
The Recruit Members are the newest additions in IMG which they need to prove their abilities and their determination to the IMG values. After they accomplish their department accomplishments, the Guild decides if they are ready to become fully fledged members. However, it should be noted that recruits are still treated with outmost respect.
The current Guild Masters are:
Takeshi Ogawa (1st)
Stephen Schwerdtfeger (2nd)
William Johnson
Johnathan Sanders
Alan Smith
