{{ Review|Corsair| Regarded by many capital ship players to be unwieldy and inefficient, the Heavy Mortar is being phased out in favor of Cerberus turrets and missiles. It does still find specialty uses in the hands of players who know how to use them, though its efficiency is 4.8 energy per point- this means that to do 1 point of hull damage, you need to use 4.8 energy. In comparison, a Cerberus turret is 2.4 energy per point of hull damage. That makes a Cerberus turret TWICE as efficient as a Heavy Mortar for the same damage over a longer period of time. This gives battleships an edge in longer fights. When it comes down to it, it's really about personal preference. Downsizing to a regular Mortar will cut into your damage output, but boost your efficiency to 4.2 energy per hull point and allow you to fire other weapons. Going full Cerb will give you more longevity in a fight but reduce your 'burst' dps, which might be crucial to finishing off an opponent. }}

The Heavy Mortar is a devastating high energy anti-capital ship weapon originally based off of research into antimatter weaponry. It is a much larger version of the original prototype, designed to deliver much more ordnance in a single projectile than its smaller brothers. This also makes it extremely energy hungry, and known to drain reactors of entire battleships in the process of firing. However its exceptional range and extremely high damage make it the modern equivalent of an artillery gun, capable of hurting other large targets from a safe distance.
